WEEK 2 – 11 Icy Poles/Hot Chocolates

A big thank you to Gajalakshmi Ramalingam (Akhilesh, 6 & Janesh, 0) for preparing the hot chocolate – our superstar helper each week!!

It is always a busy time at the tuck shop on a Friday lunch time! Our wonderful helpers this term have stepped up to the challenge of serving up to 14L of hot chocolate (with a marshmallow or tiny teddy for those students who bring their own cup) and hundreds of icy poles each lunch!

WEEK 2 Election Day BBQ

Early on Saturday 3rd May, around 7:30am, the lines began to form in anticipation of the polling booth opening at 8am for the 2025 federal election. The smell of bacon and egg rolls and sausages and onions filled the air. The GHPS team was ready to go!

The call was put out for our school community to come together to sell some sausages and sell some sausages we did! Over 1,000 sausages and 250 egg and bacon rolls were sold along with a variety of cakes, cookies, muffins, and slices.

There was a strong, steady flow of hungry voters from polls open through to about 3pm. With two BBQs fired and ready, the sausages and egg/bacon rolls kept moving.

A massive shout out to Sally Layton (Ivy, 6) for coordinating the BBQ and Fiona Davey (Daniel, 6) for coordinating the cake stall.

Apologies if you helped out on the day and have been missed (it’s hard to keep track when the stall is so busy!). Thank you to those families who heard the call for more baked goods and delivered them directly to the school throughout the day.

We would also like to acknowledge there were a couple of families who signed up for one shift, but who ended up helping out over many throughout the day as our volunteer numbers were a little low – it is this extra effort that ensures that we are able to run these types of events, but if every family were able to contribute a small amount, it would mean that we can share the load. Please keep this in mind for the next opportunity.

The BBQ raised $3,900 and the cake stall raised $1,400.

A total of $5,300 towards the new playground! Awesome effort!!

WEEK 3 Japanese Children’s Day Sushi Lunch

WEEK 9 Trivia Night – Movie Stars

On a cold wintery evening in the middle of June (Winter Solstice as it turns out) a group of trivia buffs (and non-buffs alike!) made their way to the Glen Eira McKinnon Bowls Club to be put through their paces by the quiz master, Miss D! A big thank you to Fiona (Daniel, 6) and Hayley (Harvey, 6 & Adam, 4) for arranging the night.

With all year levels represented, the night was a fun way to catch up with school friends as well as a great opportunity to meet some new faces.

We were very fortunate to be able to secure sponsorship from several local businesses to ensure that there were some fun prizes/raffles/silent auctions. Thank you to our wonderful sponsors who generously donated goods and prizes for the night – we were able to supply prizes for lucky chairs, game winners, best dressed individuals and best dressed table as well as run a raffle and a silent auction.

Please support these local businesses as our thanks for their support!

Glen Eira Mckinnon Bowls Club was the venue, and we would like to thank Terry and Karen from the club for tending to the bar for the evening.

$1,900 was raised towards the new playground.

WEEK 11 – State Schools’ Relief Fundraiser – Pizza Lunch

A whopping 527 pieces of pizza were ordered and delivered today!

This fundraiser is such a success as a result of the support we receive from Toscana Pizza (toscanapizza.com.au). They are a local family run business at 90 Murrumbeena Road, Murrumbeena and they support the school to maximise our donation to the State Schools’ Relief. Their pizzas (and donuts) are very yummy too!!

Funds raised will go to the State Schools’ Relief (SSR) which is a not-for-profit organisation that improves the lives of thousands of disadvantaged Victorian school students, and their families, each year. They offer a simple and practical service that ensures that all students can attend school in warmth and comfort with a greater sense of belonging and improved self-esteem, which in turn enhances their educational engagement. Uniform Shop

Thank you to Gayle (Alice, 2) who has taken charge of the second-hand uniform shop.

Currently available we have new “old logo” stock selling at bargain prices as well as limited 2nd hand stock, always $5. A reminder that the “old logo” uniform can still be worn until the end of 2025.

Currently we have a limited number of second-hand fleece jackets that always seem to be in demand (old logo style) but a bargain at $5 for this cold winter we are having.

We still have plenty of new size 8 & 10 (limited size 12) old logo jackets, a bargain at $10 if you need a 2nd jacket to get through Term 3.

The uniform shop runs from the gymnasium on advertised dates, notifications through Compass. Through Term 3 the Uniform Shop will run regularly on Thursday afternoons 3.15-3.45pm.

Donations of outgrown new logo uniform items in excellent condition (for resale) can be left with the Office.

Dresses, navy shorts & skorts and new logo items all gratefully accepted.

We are no longer accepting old logo items – long and short-sleeved shirts & jackets; and maroon shorts and skorts.

A Great Opportunity

We have a couple of roles needing volunteers.

Term 3 Pie Lunch coordinator.

There are plenty of resources and great mentors available to help you with taking on this role. Friday 19th September. A well-established event and a great “entry level” GPA activity.

Icy Poles / hot chocolate coordinator.

Come and learn the ropes this year and take on the coordinator role for 2026. This is a well-loved event in the student’s week and a great way to connect with the school community on a weekly basis. If you are interested in taking on this role, please reach out to Hayley (Harvey, 6 & Adam, 4).

Kids Disco – Friday 22 August (week 5) – save the date.

The DJ has been booked, and tickets will go on sale in term 3 – keep an eye out for more details soon!

This is a great social night for the students (there will be two sessions – one for the junior school and the other for the senior school).
