GPA Newsletter Term 2 2026

Welcome to the Term 2 GPA Newsletter, and a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and caregivers for your continued support and involvement in our GHPS community.

From the beautiful Mother’s Day Stall and pizza lunch fundraiser to the festivities of Japanese Children’s Day, these memorable moments wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the GPA team and the parent volunteers!

Read on for a recap of term 2 and the latest updates and info on how you can get involved!

Review of Easter Raffle Hampers (Term 1)

We were blown away by the amount of donations we received for the Easter Raffle.

Thank you to everyone who donated treats, crafts, and other delights, and thanks to everyone who purchased tickets.

Overall, there were 27 hampers up for grabs and tickets raised $660!  We hope all of the winners enjoyed their Easter goodies after the bonnet parade!

Term 2 Events

Mother’s Day Stall

It was so wholesome seeing our preppies making thoughtful purchases at the Mother’s Day stall this term after their beautiful performance at the special Mother’s Day breakfast.

A huge thank you goes out to all of the volunteers: retail staff (who patiently assisted our students with budgeting decisions), bakers, and families who donated items and time.

Your contributions, time, and efforts are hugely appreciated, thank you for making this day possible.

Special shout out to parents Kavitha (Nabila, 3), Claire and Sarah (Rachel, 5) who purchased and organised the lovely affordable gifts. The stall was a great success and raised $1530!

Pizza Lunch for State Schools Relief

We had a Pizza Lunch fundraiser for State Schools Relief. SSR is a not-for-profit organisation that provides assistance to students and families facing financial hardship each year.

We should raise roughly $650 thanks to the pizza party!

Japanese Cultural Day Sushi Lunch

The students enjoyed a wonderful day of activities organised by Tran Sensei, and a special sushi lunch for Japanese Children’s Day, a holiday in Japan dedicated to respecting children’s personalities and celebrating their happiness. Although celebrated in Japan each year on the 5th of May we moved it a little further down the GHPS calendar to avoid clashing with other events.

A massive thank you goes out to all of the parents who hosted the activities, served the sushi lunch, and joined in on the festivities. One of the highlights of the day would have to be students cheering on the contestants in the ramen eating competition! Congratulations to the Dad (Sakuhito, 3) who won, the students were thoroughly entertained!!

THANK YOU – to all our Term 2 Volunteers.

Thank you so much to all of the incredible volunteers, who have given their time to help out at our school events during term 2. From icy pole/hot chocolate duty to fundraisers and everything in between, your energy and generosity make these events possible – and fun for our students!

We can’t run these extra school activities without you, and we would love to welcome new faces too! To get involved in Term 3, you can sign up here

Looking Forward to Term 3

GPA Special Lunch Days – A Friendly Reminder

Late orders place a lot of extra pressure on our wonderful volunteer team, who collate and organise lunch order forms received by the cut-off time. To ensure the process runs smoothly and fairly for everyone, we’re unable to accept late orders.

We are happy to support inclusion of students with dietary requirements but as much notice as possible makes it more likely the needs can be addressed. To assist with this, please email ghpsgpa@gmail.com and the organiser (different for each lunch) can follow up. If it is only requested on the order form, it will likely be too late for the coordinator to start negotiating special arrangements.

We will ensure that enough time and reminders will be provided leading up to the deadline for each event.  Thanks for helping us support our volunteers by getting your orders in on time – we really appreciate it!

Second-Hand Uniform Shop

If you have outgrown uniform items in excellent condition, please leave them at the office for resale in our uniform shop.

Stay tuned for more Uniform Shop sessions in the future; details regarding dates and times via Compass notifications.

GHPS Book Club

On Tuesday 2 June, the Glen Huntly Parents Book Club met for its inaugural gathering to discuss Educated by Tara Westover. This wonderful initiative aims to bring our community together while fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning.

The Book Club will generally meet on a weeknight during the first week of each month, unless this falls within the school holidays. To make it easier for more parents and carers to attend, the meeting day will vary from month to month.

Our July selection is The Names by Florence Knapp, and all parents and carers are warmly invited to join us on Wednesday 15 July at 7.00pm in the school library.

Whether you’ve read every page, only just started, or simply enjoy books and good conversation, we’d love to see you there. The Book Club is a welcoming space to connect with other families, discover new authors, and perhaps even rediscover a love of reading. Click here if you would like to join.

A huge thank you to Olivia (Jasmine, Year 0) for the fantastic idea and for organising this wonderful community initiative. We look forward to welcoming many more parents and carers at our next meeting!
