GPA Newsletter Term 3 2026

Welcome to the Term 3 GPA Newsletter, and a massive thanks to all of the parents and caregivers for your continued support and involvement in our GHPS community.

From the school disco and Father’s Day stall to the pie lunch fundraiser, none of these festivities would be possible without the dedication of the GPA team and the parent/carer volunteers.

Read on for a recap of term 3 and the latest updates and info on how you can get involved!

Term 3 Events

School Disco – August 14th

The kids had an absolute blast at the school disco in August. The students and their families were cutting shapes on the dancefloor from beginning to end, thanks to the DJ, who spun tracks requested by the students. The sensory space was fabulous for those who needed rest and respite from the dancefloor or preferred more subdued activities.

Many of our students were ecstatic about receiving goodies upon entry and exit, including photos from the photo booth – what an awesome memento! It was great seeing the students striking their best poses in the booth. We hope everyone enjoyed the disco as much as we did.

Well done and massive props to our disco coordinators and volunteers this year. So much thought went into creating a magical night for everyone. Thank you for making the kids feel like stars – everyone was buzzing during and after!

Fathers’ and Special Person’s Day Stall – September 4th

The day kicked off with a huge soccer game between dads/carers and students. What a sight it was, seeing lots of families take part in the fun, showing off their best skills on the field and enjoying a beautiful breakfast before school started.

The Father’s Day stall ran throughout the day, where students practiced their budgeting skills and purchased gifts for their dads, grandpas, uncles, carers, and special friends. Gifts included mugs, games, plants, and homemade baked goods, and it was lovely seeing how much thought our students put into their choices.

A huge thank you goes out to all of the volunteers: retail staff (who wisely offered advice on buyer’s remorse), bakers, and families who donated their time. Your contributions, time, and efforts are hugely appreciated. Thank you for making this day possible.

Special shout out to parents Kavitha (Nabila, 3) and Claire, who purchased and organised the lovely affordable gifts. The stall raised $1,822 this year!

Pie Lunch – September 11th

It was great to see the kids representing their favourite teams by wearing their team colours.

Thank you to the wonderful people who volunteered their time and efforts to serve pies to the students, and to Build-A-Cake Glen Huntly for supplying the delicious pies and pastries.

Looking Forward to Term 4

GPA Special Lunch Days – A Friendly Reminder

Late orders place a lot of extra pressure on our wonderful volunteer team, who collate and organise lunch order forms received by the cut-off time. To ensure the process runs smoothly and fairly for everyone, we’re unable to accept late orders.

We are happy to support inclusion of students with dietary requirements but as much notice as possible makes it more likely the needs can be addressed. To assist with this, please email ghpsgpa@gmail.com and the organiser (different for each lunch) can follow up. If it is only requested on the order form, it will likely be too late for the coordinator to start negotiating special arrangements.

We will ensure that enough time and reminders will be provided leading up to the deadline for each event.  Thanks for helping us support our volunteers by getting your orders in on time – we really appreciate it!

Second-Hand Uniform Shop

If you have outgrown uniform items in excellent condition, please leave them at the office for resale in our uniform shop.

Stay tuned for more Uniform Shop sessions in the future; details regarding dates and times via Compass notifications.

GHPS Book Club

It has been fabulous welcoming new readers to the Glen Huntly Parents Book Club. So far, our books have sparked interesting discussions during meets, such as family, history, education, true crime, and reading habits!

Meetings take place on a weeknight during the first week of each month, unless this falls within the school holidays. To make it easier for more parents and carers to attend, the meeting day will vary from month to month, which is decided through a poll in the WhatsApp group chat.

The Book Club is a welcoming space to connect with other families, discover new authors, and perhaps even rediscover a love of reading. We look forward to welcoming many more parents and carers at our next meeting! We understand not everyone has the time or capacity to read when life gets hectic – whether you’ve read the book or not, you’re more than welcome to join us! Click here if you would like to join.

How is the book of the month selected?

There is no specific theme or genre. During meetings, the club discusses several books, themes, and interests, then agrees on what type of book they’d like to read next. A book club member selects a few books and creates a poll for the group vote.

Previous books:

June: Educated – Tara Westover

July: The Names – Florence Knapp

August: The Women – Kristin Hannah
