GHPS IS COMMITTED TO CHILD SAFETY

    Learning Today.                     Leading Tomorrow.

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope everyone had a safe and restful break and maybe even a few adventures.

To our returning families, it’s fantastic to see you again. To our new families, a big, heartfelt welcome to Glen Huntly Primary School! We’re so excited to have you join our wonderful school.

Thank you to our families who kindly donated their time and took such great care of our chickens over the break.

This term promises to be an exciting one, with major events including the school production of A Night at the Museum and weekly rehearsals, the Book Week Character Parade, 100 Days of prep and 3/4 camp.

NAPLAN SUCCESS

We are also looking forward to sharing our NAPLAN data in the next newsletter.

Early indicators show significant improvements across the board, and we’re incredibly pleased with the progress our students have made.

The NAPLAN results will be sent home at the end of the week.

3 Way Conferences

Please ensure you refer to Compass, where yesterday details on how to make a time to meet with your child’s teacher during our upcoming 3 way Conferences were shared.

These meetings will take place on the week beginning July 27th. Bookings are now open.

Grounds

As part of our commitment to student safety, a professional arborist has assessed every tree on school grounds to ensure they are healthy and able to regenerate in time for spring.

With unpredictable storms and windy days on the rise, this check was vital in reducing risks and ensuring our grounds are safe for learning and play.

School Fair

The school fair committee and very busy organising site plans, stalls, and suppliers for the school fair on October 17.

To make this event a success we urge all families to contribute to the day, whether it be volunteering on a stall, sourcing supplies, setting up, or packing down on the day.

Body and Relationships Education for Years 5–6

This term, students in Years 5–6 will participate in a series of three Body and Relationships Education sessions as part of our Health and Physical Education curriculum.

The sessions will be delivered by B.a.R.E for schools, led by an experienced primary school educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience. The program is designed to provide students with consistent, accurate and age-appropriate information in a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment. Sessions are delivered in an open, honest and engaging way, encouraging students to feel comfortable asking questions and developing a positive understanding of their growing bodies.

The content aligns with the Victorian Curriculum and supports students’ understanding of body development, personal wellbeing and respectful relationships.

Years 5 & 6 – My Growing Body

Across three sessions, Year 5 and 6 students will build on their prior learning by exploring:

  • The seven main changes that occur during puberty and why these changes happen.
  • The physical and emotional changes specific to males and females, including more detailed discussions about periods and wet dreams and how to manage them.
  • Human reproduction, pregnancy and the development of a baby. Sexual intercourse is discussed factually, non-graphically and in an age-appropriate manner as part of understanding human reproduction.

The presenter emphasises that these sessions are designed to support—not replace—the important conversations that happen at home. Families play a vital role in helping children develop healthy attitudes towards body education, respectful relationships and personal values. Students will also be encouraged to seek information from trusted adults and to continue asking questions as they grow and develop.
