The past four weeks have been filled with numerous events that have truly brought our school community closer together. I want to take a moment to recognise the incredible hard work and dedication of both our staff and community.

Our staff have consistently gone above and beyond to create a supportive and engaging learning environment. Meanwhile, the community has come together with remarkable commitment, providing invaluable support and resources.

Your collective efforts have fostered a strong sense of unity and pride, ensuring our students thrive both academically and personally. I’ve always believed that while it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community to educate one.

School Athletics Carnival

In week 3 we held our annual school athletics carnival with the aim of the children developing their skills, challenging themselves and selecting a team that will represent our school at the District carnival which is being held in September. Please see the results of the day later in the newsletter.

Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to Miss Price for her successful organisation of the event. I look forward to seeing how the children go at the next level.

3 Way Conferences

Thank you to all the families who attended the 3 way conferences last Wednesday. It was wonderful to see such strong participation and a deep commitment to your child’s learning journey.

Many staff have shared how uplifting and encouraging your positive feedback was and how proud the students were showcasing their learning with their family. Small positive acknowledgements on the partnership we have between school and home go a long way in fostering a culture where staff feel valued and take joy in the important work they do.

Principal’s Day

I’m delighted to share that Principal’s Day was a wonderful success — all thanks to our amazing students and dedicated staff!

A heartfelt thank you to our students for making the day so special with their thoughtful cards and kind messages. Your words of appreciation truly made the day unforgettable and reminded us just how much you value the leadership and support provided each day.

I’d also like to express my sincere gratitude to our hardworking staff for the delicious lunch they prepared for Mr White and me. Your effort and thoughtfulness meant so much to us.

Moments like these reinforce how fortunate I am to be part of the Glen Huntly Primary School community.

Year 6 Graduation – Save the Date – Wednesday 10th of December.

We are excited to announce that our Year 6 Graduation will be held on Wednesday, 10th of December at the GHPS gymnasium.

Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

Further details will be shared via Compass on Monday August 18.

Attendance

I have noticed that a growing number of students have been arriving at school after 9am, which makes for a disrupted start to their day of learning.

In addition, it has been noted that some late comers are not being signed in by their parent/carer. It is essential that this occurs as stated in our school policy.

Planning for 2026 – It’s time

Are you leaving GHPS at the end of the year? (I hope not) If your child will not be returning to Glen Huntly Primary School in 2026, please let our office team know as soon as possible.

We have begun workforce and class planning for the 2026 school year, and having accurate enrolment numbers helps us plan effectively for the number of grades, staffing, and resources needed.

Your support in keeping us informed is greatly appreciated!

Get Ready to Dance

Our school disco is just around the corner and excitement is building, who will break out the

worm this year! It’s a great opportunity for students to have fun, show off their dance moves and enjoy time with friends. There will be music, lights, and plenty of fun!

Book Week

I’m excited to celebrate Book Week with our school community this year. It will take place from Monday August 18 to Friday August 22.

This year’s theme is “Book an Adventure!” It’s a great chance to inspire our students to embrace the joy of reading and recognise the amazing talent of Australian authors and illustrators.

One of the highlights will be our Book Week Parade at assembly on Friday August 22, during session one at 9.30 on the Junior campus. Students are encouraged to dress as their favourite book

character. We can’t wait to see all the creative costumes!

Families and friends are invited to join us for a fun-filled event.

Father & Special Person’s Day Breakfast and Dad’s v Kids Soccer Match

We’re excited to invite all dads, grandads, uncles, and special people to join us for our Father & Special Person’s Day Breakfast on Friday 5 September.

The morning will kick off at 8:15am with a delicious breakfast outside the gym. We’ll be serving cereal, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, scones with jam and cream – the perfect start to a fun-filled morning.

After breakfast, it’s time to lace up your boots or cheer on the action in our annual Dad’s v Kids soccer game on the oval. This much-loved event is always full of laughs, friendly competition, and great memories.

2026 School Fair

The GPA are already looking ahead to our 2026 School Fair and need a dedicated, enthusiastic coordinator to help bring this beloved event to life!

If you enjoy organizing, working with a team, and making memorable experiences for our students and families, we’d love to hear from you.

Congratulations to the following students who received a ‘Student of the Week’ award.

Monish 0A – For developing his fluency in reading, confidently decoding words with digraphs, and recognising a range of heart words.

Zara 0A – For building confidence when writing, improving her handwriting, and showing curiosity in experimenting with letter sounds.

Evie 0A – Showing 5 different ways to make 20. She wrote it as a numeral, showed it on a number line and ten frame, drew a picture and wrote the number name. Great Work, Evie

Arya 0A – Discussing with her peers during our Inquiry topic that she ‘belongs to a tennis club’.!

Sammy 0B – For demonstrating resilience and pride in Maths this week, inquiring into place value. Sammy has been confidently demonstrating his understanding and thinking, throughout the lessons and in his independent work.

Lyra 0B – For her writing on ‘What Bears eat’, Lyra identified that “bears eat nuts, berries, and salmon, and cubs drink their mother’s milk.” Throughout this unit, Lyra consistently demonstrated confidence when sharing both her prior knowledge and new learning about bears with the class.

Klim 1A – for showing amazing effort and enthusiasm in writing your Wombat Stew procedure. You took your time to use your neatest handwriting, carefully included all the steps and worked so hard to do your best. Well done and keep up your wonderful writing!

Jacob 1B – For being a kind and caring friend who always looks out for others. You make sure everyone is included in games and never let anyone feel left out. Your friendly nature brings big smiles to our playground every day! Well done, Jacob.

Anvitha 1B – For confidently using mental strategies to solve tricky three-step word problems! Well done!

Aniket 1C – This student has shown great responsibility in his learning this week, making a fantastic effort during our group reading sessions. He listened carefully and followed the story with focus and enthusiasm. We were so impressed with his explanation of the word bait — “you put food on the hook and get the fish with that.” What a clear and thoughtful response! Keep up the amazing work, Aniket!

Mitchell 1C – This week, you have shown amazing improvement in both your learning and behaviour. You took on board feedback from our 3-way conference, worked hard to improve your handwriting and stayed focus during lessons. We are so proud of your efforts and the responsible learner you are growing into. Well done, Mitchell! What a superstar!

Anaya 2A – For showing great perseverance in adapting to a new classroom environment, building your confidence each day, and forming new friendships while learning new skills. You have been a wonderful addition to our class. Well done!

Sarang 2A – For working hard this week while writing contraction sentences based on our mentor text ‘Click, Clack, Moo’. You used commas correctly and came up with funny ideas for your sentence endings such as the chickens getting glitter in their noses! Very entertaining, keep it up!

Jaasritha 2B – For writing a super-convincing piece about why Alex should get a new room! You back up your ideas with great examples and wowed us with your clever rhetorical questions. Keep up the Wonderful Writing!

Aaradhya 3B – For confidence during all classroom discussions, reading with a loud, clear voice with expression and for showing strong understanding of finding key words in research about indigenous model Samantha Harris, during writing sessions. Thank you for all the kindness that you continually show others in the room and your teamwork and pride in your work! Well Done! superstar!

Sebastian 3C – For showing perseverance in his division strategies and linking his multiplication knowledge to concepts.

Pranav 4B – For showing his mathematical thinking during reviews and with his workbook about multiplication and division! For clearly writing down regular and irregular past tense verbs! Well done you are a star!.

Eden 4C – For always creating amazing rocket writing pieces and being fully engaged in rocket writing sharing time.

Rishaa 4C – For always being engaged and creative in our class discussions. You are a confident and focused student and this comes through in your answers.

Makayla 5B – Her positive attitude in class, and working hard to improve her algebra skills

Ellie 5C – For demonstrating a strong understanding of algebra through her solid foundation in multiplication and division facts. It has been amazing to see her confidence in maths build over the term. Well done!

Kunal 6B – Congratulations on your fantastic contribution to 5/6B and GHPS. Your positive attitude towards learning is infectious and adds a spark to our day! You will be missed.

Anton 6C – For working hard on your personal goal to be more organised and neat. It has been amazing to see the output of your school work showing neat handwriting, and keeping an organised tub at all times! Amazing!

Science Week 2025

What a wonderful turnout we had for our 2025 Science Fair to kick off National Science Week. Students enjoyed an interactive scavenger hunt and engaging in the activities on offer linking to Biological and Earth and Space Science.

A big thank you to Preeti Roychand, who ran an interactive activity linking to Soil Sciences and the wonderful GPA, who jumped in to serve hot chocolates and donuts.

Many students jumped in to assist with the activities on the night and Reptile Encounters provided many photo opportunities to create a love and interest in wildlife.

Thank you also to the many parents who assisted their children to complete the tasks.

It was exciting to see so many members of our community engage with and advocate for the Sciences!

On the 12th August, the Student Councillors held a meeting with Mrs Burns and discussed some topics.

We will now have the Victorian, Torres Strait Islands, Aboriginal, and Australian flags at GHPS. (Thanks to Mahati for contacting the State and Local MP’s).

On the last week of term we will have a casual dress day and students can come dressed in their favourite sporting colours or any team merchandise they might want to wear.

Also, a reminder, please do not step on the garden beds near the gym and please do not make a mess in the girl’s bathrooms.

At the end of the week, there will be a customary rubbish pickup where each student will have to pick up ten or more pieces of rubbish.
