Prep Enrolments 2027
On Monday, we formally sent our 2027 Prep enrolment offers to families.
Welcoming new students and their families into our community is always an exciting milestone, particularly as many are siblings of current students or families already connected to our school. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on what makes Glen Huntly Primary School such a special place.
Our school sits at the heart of the Glen Huntly community; a place where lifelong friendships are formed, cherished memories are created and a genuine sense of belonging flourishes. It is these enduring relationships, built through shared experiences and community spirit, that make GHPSs such a unique and welcoming place to learn and grow.
House Athletics Day
Year 3–6 students enjoyed a fantastic House Athletics Day last Wednesday.
Throughout the day, students truly embodied our school values- respect, resilience teamwork, and responsibility. It was wonderful to witness students celebrating one another’s achievements, supporting their teammates, and striving to do their very best in every event, despite the rain and chilly conditions.
Congratulations to all students for the enthusiasm and school spirit they brought to the day.
Well done to everyone who competed and to Miss Price for organising such a terrific day for our students.
100 Days of School
We also congratulate our Prep students, who recently celebrated their 100 Days of School a significant milestone recognising just how much they have grown, learned, and achieved in such a short period of time.
Thank you to our prep team and families for supporting such a special day for our students and congratulations to our preps in all they have achieved in their first 100 days.
The 100 Days of School celebration is much more than a fun dress-up day it is an opportunity to recognise the remarkable progress our Prep students have made academically, socially, and emotionally. In just 100 school days, they have developed new friendships, built resilience, grown in confidence, learned countless new skills and embraced the joys of school life.
We congratulate every Prep student on this wonderful achievement and extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated Prep teachers and education support staff for creating such a memorable celebration. Thank you also to our families for joining us and helping make this milestone such a meaningful occasion.
We look forward to watching our youngest learners continue to flourish throughout the remainder of the year.
Father’s Day breakfast and stall
Our Father and special person breakfast and stall is coming up on Friday 4th September. The breakfast will be held in the gym at 8.15 and the stall in the library during the day. Each class will have the chance to attend. Further details will be supplied soon.
Being Punctual
In our last newsletter, I wrote about the importance of our students arriving at school on time and being ready to learn.
Our learning begins at 9.00am, so we ask that students are in their classroom and settled and ready to start the day.
Teachers mark the roll shortly after 9.00am. If your child is not present when the roll is marked, they will be recorded as late, and parents/carers are required to sign them in at the Compass kiosk, located near the staffroom and office, and provide a reason for the late arrival.
Accurate attendance records are an important legal requirement for schools to provide valuable information for the Department of Education. To ensure our records remain accurate, the school office will send home a letter each month where a reason for the late arrival has not been recorded.
Thank you to our families for supporting us, by ensuring children arrive on time each day. Starting the day calmly and promptly helps our students feel settled, ready, and confident to learn.
A Reminder to Drive and Park Safely Around Our School
A gentle reminder to all families to please take extra care when driving and parking around the school, particularly during our busy drop-off and pick-up times.
Please slow down, follow the road and parking rules, use designated crossings and be mindful of children and families walking in and around the school.
We all want our students to arrive at and leave school safely.
Lat week members of school council, Glen Eira council myself and Mr White met to discuss parking around our school. Ideas were shared and suggestions made. Please watch this space for any changes to the parking regulations. And in the meantime, please follow the parking signs and road rules.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe and for showing consideration to others.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful school community for making Principal’s Day so special.
We are incredibly grateful for the thoughtful messages, kind words, beautiful gestures and warm wishes we received. It was a lovely reminder of what makes our Glen Huntly Primary School community so special.
It is a privilege to be part of such a caring, supportive and dedicated school community. We feel very fortunate to work alongside our amazing staff, students and families each day.

A Night at the Museum
There’s only 4 weeks until our school production.
Tickets are now on sale and today is the last day for early bird prices. There is no limit on the number of tickets families can purchase.
Costume information has now been sent home. If you have questions, please see your teacher.

Sudais 0C – showing great excitement and pride with his measuring of length this week using informal units. He has loved using the ones blocks and crystals to measure objects around the room. Congratulations you are a star.
Zaad 0C – For resilience in the yard when standing up for yourself. You show leadership with your line leading. Congratulations you star.
Abigail 1A – For her excellent rewrite of the ending of the mentor text, Room on the Broom, this week. Abigail showed creativity and imagination in her writing. Well done, Abigail!
Isabella 1A – For thinking deeply about the inside traits of George in The Smartest Giant in Town and using evidence from the text to explain her thinking. Great work, Isabella!
Hazel 1B – For being a superstar mathematician and having a go at the challenge work this week. Well done on pushing yourself to complete the harder work!
Tim 1B – for your amazing effort with numeracy this week. You did a fantastic job at categorising and organising data. Keep up the amazing work!
Arya 1C – For showing wonderful focus and care while making sushi in our cooking class. You followed the steps carefully and used the kitchen equipment safely and responsibly. Great job!
Lucas 2A – For bringing fantastic energy and enthusiasm to our dance production practice this week! You listened respectfully, followed the moves and absolutely rocked the dance floor. Amazing work, superstar!
Klim 2A – For always bringing your fantastic sense of humour to our classroom and finding ways to make everyone smile and laugh! It has been wonderful to see you spreading joy while also working hard to stay focused and get your tasks finished on time. Keep up the great work Superstar!
Talia 2B – For busting out some fantastic dance moves during rehearsals this week! You brought amazing energy and positivity and worked brilliantly with your dance partner. Way to dance your socks off, Talia!
Noah 2C – For settling back into the school routine so smoothly after your long trip away. We loved hearing about your travel adventures and looking through your amazing journal. We are so happy to have you back. Fantastic work!
Lachlan 3A – For showing great pride in his work this week! We are so proud of how you’ve taken your time and are showing us your best work of the year!
Elly 3A – Your wonderful effort in your maths learning. You have tackled division and mass concepts with great persistence and always strive for your best. Thank you for being such an attentive listener, we are so proud of the growth you have shown with your learning.
Arjav 3B – Awarded for an outstanding work ethic, consistently excellent outcomes, completing all homework every week, and writing a delightful poem about an orange that earned a special visit to Mr White’s Novelty Cupboard!
3B – for outstanding poetry publishing. We can’t wait for the Poetry Slam next week!
Anna 4A – For your thoughtful responses to our mentor texts and your contributions during your Literature Circle role. I love the way you develop a deeper understanding of the text through our discussions, sharing your insights and helping others to understand it better. Well done!
Olympia 4A – For consistently building on your strong vocabulary and sharing your knowledge. I love how you have upgraded your action and speaking verbs during our Grammar lesson, as well as adding descriptive words to make your writing more engaging. Well done!
Nikita 4B – For your awesome use of poetic devices! I loved your personification, “the wind growling,” to describe the savanna. What a powerful way to bring your writing to life! Keep being a creative writer, well done!
Summer 4B – You are receiving Student of the Week for applying your learning about upgraded verbs in Grammar to your Literacy Circles Vocab Enricher role! You identified “bolted” as a powerful verb the author used. Fantastic job transferring your learning!
Bhagya 5A – For being a wonderful and caring member of 5/6A this year. We are going to miss you so much including your famous statement, ” I have 2 questions?” Good luck at your new school. They are very lucky to have you.
Adam 5B – fantastic improvement in his work rate during our algebra lessons. He has stayed focused, challenged himself with increasingly difficult problems, and shown great persistence when solving equations. Keep up the excellent effort, Adam
Abrasax 6A – For going out of your way to help at Athletics on Wednesday. Ms Piscioneri really appreciated your help with the measuring in the triple jump. It saved so much time and kept the day running smoothly.
Emma 6B – For showing exceptional patience during debating and supporting her team with kindness and encouragement like a true leader.
National Science Week 2026
Next week, we celebrate National Science Week next week. The topic for 2026 is: Seeds of Science

P-2 Sensory Seeds
3-6 Dissecting seeds
On Thursday 20th, Year 5/6 welcome Dr Ivanhoe Leung to discuss proteins and enzymes how we can use the information to treat diseases such as tuberculosis, and to solve environmental problems such as plastics.
To celebrate our Chemical Sciences unit, our Science captains will help to present a little Science Show at next Friday’s assembly.

Children’s Book Week is here from 22-28 of August! Come dressed up as your favourite book character for the costume parade on Thursday 27th August.
The theme for this year’s Book Week is ‘Symphony of Stories’.
Held on the junior campus at 11.45am or in the gym in case of wet weather.
In celebration of the upcoming Children’s Book Week, we are having a second-hand book sale! Come by the office and buy any book for $2 while stock lasts. (Cash only, unless over $10)
Books range from pre-school to grade 6 reading levels.

The School Concert, ‘A Night at the Museum’, is coming up in less than a month! For this reason, we will be having some extra rehearsals during school time over the next few weeks.
Please make sure your children arrive at school on time and are ready to practise. Rehearsal times will vary depending on the day and your child’s class.
The rehearsal dates for the next few weeks are:

- Thursday, 20 August
- Monday, 24 August
- Wednesday, 26 August
- Wednesday, 2 September
- Thursday, 3 September
Thank you to the Kinect to Dance team for their amazing work and teaching our students their routines.
Also, make sure you buy your tickets soon, so you don’t miss out on this amazing production! The students have been working incredibly hard, and we are very excited to share their hard work with you.

Supporting Our Community Pantry
Our Community Pantry is a wonderful way for our school community to support families who may need a little extra help from time to time.
If you are in a position to donate, we would be very grateful for contributions of pasta, pasta sauce, healthy lunchbox snacks, and other everyday pantry items (tinned goods are not required at the moment).
Donations can be left at the school office or on the West side Campus staff room.
Every donation, no matter how small, helps us care for and support one another. Thank you to our generous school community for helping make a difference!
