Spring Fair: Every Family Makes a Difference

Our upcoming Spring Fair on Saturday 17 October 1-6pm is a much-loved community event. It’s a chance to come together, have fun and enjoy a fantastic day with family and friends. It is also an important fundraiser for our school, helping us provide valuable resources and opportunities for our students.

To make the day a success, we ask that every family volunteers for at least ninety minutes at a stall. When everyone contributes a small amount of their time, the workload can be shared fairly, and no one has to carry an extra load. Our aim is for everyone to be able to finish their shift on time and enjoy the Fair with their families too. We know that volunteering is a commitment, and we genuinely appreciate the time that families give. The more families who put their hands up, the easier it is for everyone, and the more enjoyable the day will be for our whole school community.

This year’s stalls include:

BBQ and Food stalls

Lucky Jars, Lollies and Snow Cones
Plaster Painting

Stall shifts will soon be available to sign up for via SignUp, so please keep an eye out and choose a time that works for your family. Every family, every shift and every helping hand makes a difference – no special skills required. Thank you for helping us share the load and make this year’s Spring Fair a great day for everyone!

It’s Time to Wear our Hats

From Monday 31 August, students will be required to wear a broad-brimmed hat for all outdoor activities, in accordance with our school’s SunSmart Policy.

Throughout next week, we will continue reminding students of this expectation and supporting them to develop the routine of remembering their hats each day. Following this one-week grace period, all students will be expected to bring and wear their hats whenever they are outdoors, including during recess and lunchtime.

Students who do not have a hat will be asked to remain in the designated covered area next to the gym on the senior campus, or, on the deck on then junior campus during playtimes. We appreciate families supporting us by ensuring that hats are ready to go for Monday and helping students establish the habit of bringing them to school each day.

Cooking Classes

Our Term 3 cooking classes are held each Wednesday and led by our wonderful cooking teacher, Fiona.

This term, all students have been learning how to prepare both vegetarian or chicken sushi. The sessions provide students with valuable opportunities to learn about different ingredients, food preparation, and kitchen safety.

We have also been fortunate to have many parent helpers supporting the classes, and we greatly appreciate their assistance.

Book Week Celebrations

This week, our school celebrated Book Week with plenty of colour, creativity, and excitement!

On Thursday, students participated in our Book Week parade, dressing as their favourite book characters. It was wonderful to see so many imaginative costumes.

Our teachers also joined in, wearing some very creative and amusing outfits.

Throughout the week, classes have been decorating their classroom doors to represent their favourite books, helping to bring stories to life across the school.

Billie our librarian has purchased some new picture story books and novels for the library as well following a survey of what students want to read.

Parent / Carer Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey is now open online till Friday 18 September 2026.

The survey is conducted online and only takes 15-20 minutes to complete.

Father’s Day and Special Persons Celebration

Our Father’s and Special Person’s Breakfast is being held on Friday September 4 from 8.15 am. All Fathers, Grandfathers, Special People, and of course students are welcome! Breakfast will be served from the canteen window and a soccer match adults v students will follow.

During the morning, the GPA will be hosting the traditional Fathers Day Stall in the library. Students are encouraged to bring some money to purchase a gift. Prices range from $1-$10. If you can help run the stall, please sign up here https://signup.com/go/GPxkKKV. You can also donate home-made baked goods to the stall. Email your list of ingredients to ghpsgpa@gmail.com so we can print labels.

Children attending District Athletics that day can visit the library between 8:30am and 8:50am to purchase their gifts.

Aluna 0A – For showing a great understanding of our learning and confidently volunteering to answer questions during Number Talks. You have been sharing your ideas and explaining your mathematical thinking with the class. It has been wonderful to see your confidence and enthusiasm grow. Keep up the great work!

Harlow 0B – For demonstrating resilience, pride and persistence in writing this week! Harlow created a fantastic information report all about our school and worked independently to bump up her writing by adding thoughtful details about what makes GHPS so special, its unique features and all the amazing things we get to do! Harlow, you should be super proud of the effort and care you put into your writing. Keep shining and keep up the fantastic work!

Penelope 0B – For continuously demonstrating resilience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards learning! Penelope always jumps into new learning experiences with excitement and confidence, eagerly shares her ideas and gives everything a go! She shows determination when faced with learning challenges. Penelope, your wonderful enthusiasm and can-do attitude make you shine! Keep being brave, curious and ready to learn, we can’t wait to see what you achieve next!

Sebastian 0B – For consistently demonstrating resilience by entering the classroom each morning with a happy and confident attitude. Your positive start to the day shows you are ready to learn and shines as a fantastic example for others! Keep it up Sebastian, we love having you a part of our Prep B community!

Lucy 0C – For showing pride and respect in her writing during our information reports about Glen Huntly Primary school. She could not wait to share all of her knowledge. She is a star writer. Keep it up.

Asher 1A – for your fantastic effort creating a Sizzling Start for your story! You worked hard to include when and where the story took place, adjectives to describe the noun, and a verb to tell us what happened. Keep up the great effort, Asher!

Ezekiel 1B – For starting the day in such a fantastic way. You have been walking into our classroom this week with confidence and a positive attitude, settling in beautifully and getting ready to learn all on your own. I am so proud of you!

Charlie 1C – For confidently collecting, recording and representing data using tally charts and bar graphs in Mathematics.

Vihan 2A – For turning 2D shapes into a turtley awesome tangram. You cleverly moved, flipped and turned your shapes to create the one and only Mr Thingy the Turtle. What a creative masterpiece!

Caleb 2B – For his awesome efforts in writing this week when learning about complex sentences.

Sonny 2C – for taking News by storm with your presentation about why thunderstorms are better than rainbows! Your topic was super creative, you confidently answered the class’s questions, and you even used your amazing computer skills to type up your speech. What an electrifying effort!

David 3A – For his guidance of his group during cooking this week. You really showed your culinary skills and worked well in your team. Love your work!

Amelia 3B – For immersing herself in Poetry writing this term and producing an array of descriptive and emotional poems. Her lighthouse shape poem was incredible and her recital at the Poetry Slam yesterday was confident and expressive. Well Done!

Reyansh 4A – For asking thoughtful questions about his group’s Literature Circle text this week. His questions helped encourage discussion and showed his curiosity and interest in understanding the book more deeply. Well done!

Misheli 4B – You are receiving Student of the Week for confidently applying your learning of the bar model strategy for multiplication to solve tricky problems. Well done!

Ruby 5A – For taking on an extra speakers’ role in your debate, when one team member was away. You confidently spoke and your team’s preparation was clearly evident. A great job Ruby.

Nora 5B – For consistently applying a growth mindset by asking thoughtful questions, seeking clarification and showing a strong desire to learn and improve. Keep up the fantastic attitude!

Nagi 6A – For the leadership you consistently demonstrate across the school. From your role as Environmental Captain to the way you have helped your team with your debate. Great job.

Year 1 News

Over the last few weeks, the Year 1 students participated in their exciting cooking sessions where they got to make sushi!

They learnt to cook rice and practised peeling and slicing their veggies. Then they had a go rolling all their fillings into the seaweed, which was a fun challenge.

The students did a fabulous job and the results were delicious! Thank you to all our parent helpers who make these fun experiences possible.

A Night at the Museum

We are just one week away from the School Concert at Camberwell Grammar School!

On Monday, 7 September, in the morning, the whole school will travel to the venue to run through a whole-school rehearsal. If you would like your child to attend, please make sure you have given consent through the Compass Event I posted this Monday.
