We hope our students, staff, and families had a relaxing break filled with quality family time and exciting experiences. I was fortunate to spend time with my grandson Alexander and had lots of Nanny cuddles. My heart is overflowing with love.
The final term of the school year is one week down, and we are off to a fantastic start! Our Year 3/4 students kick things off with an adventure to Waratah Bay Camp setting the tone for a term full of learning, growth, challenge, and fun. It has been great to reconnect with our students and our school community this week, I have enjoyed seeing everyone around the school. It is remiss of me not to congratulate our Brisbane (and old Fitzroy) supporters with a terrific Grand Final win over the holiday break.
This term is packed with events, so be sure to keep an eye on the school calendar to stay updated on all the activities. From classroom learning to special programs, our students will have many opportunities to thrive as they prepare to transition into their new year levels.
Fundraising
I would like to thank TheirCare for donating two grand final tickets. Our very generous community raised $1712 in the silent auction. And I believe the successful winners were Brisbane Lions fans, so money well spent.
Our new senior playground has been a huge hit with our students – and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive: “It’s great!”
We are incredibly grateful to our school community for the time, effort, and generosity that went into raising an amazing $76,000 to bring this project to life.
Our students are at the heart of everything we do and plan for, and it’s wonderful to see them enjoying the results of what we can achieve together. Thank you for being such a vital part of this journey.
Classes for 2026
Planning for 2026 is underway and thank you to the families who have told me that they are moving and not returning to GHPS next year. If you also have plans to transfer to another school please email the office as soon as possible.
At this stage we are projecting an enrolment total of 325, which means 15 classes.
There will be:

Parking at GHPS
It has been brought to my attention by concerned parents that the following has been observed.
Some of our families driving in Garden Ave are not following road rules by doing a U-turn over the pedestrian crossing in the peak of school drop off while there were kids waiting to cross the road, there is regular (illegal) parking outside of the kiss and go area, including hard up against the pedestrian crossing, obstructing view for other drivers and pedestrians alike.
Also, exiting children from the car on the roadside rather than on the footpath side of the car.
I urge our families to drive safely around our school to ensure the safety of our students.
Social Media
Many of our families like to proudly share events and achievements of their children on social media. However, parents posting other children on social media without the permission of their parents is a privacy breach that can have legal, safety, and ethical implications, as it creates a “digital dossier” of the child.
It is a good practice to always seek consent from the other child’s parents before posting their image online.
Let’s work together to maintain safe and respectful use of social media platforms that involve our children.
Prep Transition
Next week, we welcome our 2026 Prep students into our school for their first transition session.
Many of you will know and remember what a significant, special time and milestone this is!
We are thrilled that they will be joining us multiple times across this term as they prepare for the start of the 2026 school year.

School Holiday Works Update
We’re pleased to share that several improvement projects were completed over the school holidays to enhance safety, accessibility, and play spaces across Glen Huntly Primary School.
The laneway pathway has been resurfaced, creating a smoother and safer surface for students, families, and members of the public travelling to and past the school. In addition, new concrete paths have been installed outside the Their Care office and at the crossover between the Junior Campus bridge gate and the English Language School gate, improving accessibility and drainage in these busy areas.
A big thank you goes to school parent, Tania Splawa-Neyman, who planted six new native trees on the Junior Campus. These trees will provide valuable shade and contribute to our school’s natural environment as they grow.
We’re also very excited to announce that our new playground has been installed! This vibrant and inclusive play space has already become a favourite spot for our students to explore and enjoy during break times.
Thank you to our facilities team, contractors, and the local council for their effort in completing these projects on time and ensuring everything was ready for a smooth start to Term 4.
Spook-a-thon Fundraiser! 🎃
Get ready for some spooky fun! Glen Huntly Primary School will be holding our annual “Spook-a-thon” on Halloween – Friday 31st October to raise money for our Library.
Students are invited to dress up in a fun costume and join in the excitement as they run or walk around the oval from 12pm to 1pm. Costumes can be anything from a princess or pirate to a superhero – let your imagination run wild!
We do ask that families avoid costumes that are too scary or include frightening masks or props, to ensure the event is enjoyable for all students.
This event is always a highlight of the school year and a great way to support our Library while having lots of fun. More information regarding the event will be sent out next week on Compass.
Curriculum Day Term 4
November 3rd is a curriculum day. Our staff will have their yearly CPR and anaphylaxis training as well as assessment reporting for the semester two reports.

June 1C – We are so proud of this student for showing our school values of Respect and Teamwork. She is always well-mannered and helpful in class, listening carefully to her teachers and classmates. You are a wonderful example of kindness and cooperation, June. Keep up the great work!
Rishik 2A – For being a data detective this week. You surveyed your classmates about their favourite sport, turned the results into a terrific column graph then answered lots of questions to show your understanding. Fantastic effort!
Shir 2B – For creating awesome designs of characters that fit their settings just right! You invented heroes, bad guys and creatures. each with a purpose and gave them the best names like Captain Cake, Fish Boy, Fluffy, and Sand Spirit. Way to go, Imagineer!
Misheli 3B – For working beautifully on all activities including writing her feelings and understandings about the mentor text, The Sweetest Fig and working on elapsed time in Maths. Thank you for being wonderful everyday and being kind to others! Well Done!
Geetikaa 3C – showed improvement in her handwriting and continues to work toward neat and tidy book work. She loves our rocket writing time, and this comes out in her words and presenting her pieces.
Jaina 4A – For her attention to detail in all her work so far this term. We’re so proud of you!
Aryan 5B – His fantastic contribution to 5/6 B this year, including being respectful to all his peers and showing pride in his work. We will miss you Aryan.
Henry 6A – You are always contributing to class discussions. It’s great that you are prepared to share your knowledge and opinions.
Karolina 6B – Showing excellent growth in her focus and work ethic across all areas, especially in Mathematics, resulting in consistently improved work quality late last term and to begin Term 4.
Sara 6C – For showing confidence in her role as Literary Luminary by selecting interesting sections of the group’s text to share and discuss during our Literature Circle sessions this week. Keep it up!
Prep News
Prep’s Big Adventure: Exploring Place, Belonging & Community!
What an exciting term it was for our Prep students! In Term 3, they embarked on a wonderful Inquiry journey, discovering about the places they live in, the communities they belong to, and the special connections people have to the land.
Through hands-on activities, storytelling, and rich discussions, students learned that places are more than just dots on a map- they are full of meaning, memories, and heart. They explored the unique features of their local area and shared what makes a place feel special to them. Most importantly, they discovered why it’s so important to care for the places we love. A highlight of the unit was learning about the deep connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have with “Country” and “Place.”
To bring their learning to life, we were thrilled to welcome some real-life community heroes into our classrooms-including local firefighters, police officers, and a vet! These special visits helped students understand the important roles people play in keeping our communities safe, healthy, and connected.
And of course, no exploration would be complete without maps! Preps became budding cartographers as they created maps of familiar places, explored how maps help us find and describe locations, and were introduced to the world map and globe.
It was a term full of curiosity, wonder, and connection- and we couldn’t be prouder of the learning our Prep students have achieved!
