GHPS IS COMMITTED TO CHILD SAFETY

    Learning Today.                     Leading Tomorrow.

Oh, What A Night!!

And what a night last Monday was!

Our school production of A Night at the Museum surpassed everything we had hoped for. Our students truly shone on stage, showcasing their incredible talents and confidence. It was wonderful to see their hard work and enthusiasm come together in such a memorable evening.

A huge thank you to Kinect Performing Arts, led by Bree, and to her wonderful team, Jordan, Millie, and Kyle. Their professionalism, energy and commitment ensured that the entire production ran smoothly, both on and off the stage. We are incredibly grateful for all the hours of planning, rehearsing, organising, encouraging, and supporting our students. The energy and enthusiasm they brought to our school was wonderful, and we truly appreciated everything they did to make the evening such a success.

Thank you also to Camberwell Grammar and their staff, who could not have been more helpful or accommodating. Their support and generosity in welcoming us to their venue helped make the evening possible, and we are very grateful.

A very special thank you to our Music Teacher, Mr Wunderlich, for the time, care, and dedication he gave to supporting our staff and working alongside Kinect throughout the production. Thank you also for preparing our Party Hats and School Choir, who gave such wonderful performances on the night.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making A Night at the Museum such a special experience for our students, our staff, and the entire Glen Huntly Primary School community. It was a night we can all be very proud of and one that our students will remember for a long time to come.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Our Spring Fair is just around the corner, and we are looking forward to making it a wonderful day for our whole school community!

To help make the day a success, we are asking every family to volunteer for at least two hours at one of our stalls. It is a great opportunity to get involved, meet other families and be part of what makes our school community so special. And, of course, your children are very welcome to join you and lend a hand too!

The Spring Fair is our major fundraiser for the year, and while we want it to be a fun and memorable day where our school community and wider community come together, it is also an important opportunity for us to raise funds for our school.

This year, funds raised will go towards the purchase of a barrel vault shade structure over part of the asphalt area on our Senior Campus. This will provide valuable shade for our students and create a more comfortable outdoor space for them to enjoy throughout the year.

Every family’s contribution, big or small, will help us reach this goal. With everyone pitching in, we can make the Spring Fair a fantastic day and raise funds that will have a lasting benefit for our students.

For example:
• Volunteer for a stall with your child
• Help with set-up or pack-up
• Assist with activities, games, or food stalls
• Invite friends and family to come along and enjoy the day

We hope everyone will get involved and help make this year’s Spring Fair our best one yet!

Grade 1 and 2 Wattle Tree Mural

working concept

An exciting new mural is taking shape on the east wall of the Grade 2A portable. The school has been very fortunate to secure the services of artist Nick Ives, parent of Sonny in Grade 2, who has developed the concept of a beautiful wattle tree overlooking our proposed sensory garden.

On Thursday, all Grade 1 and Grade 2 students spent time in the art room working with Nick and contributed to the project by painting pieces of timber that will form the leaves of the tree. This has given every student in Grades 1 and 2 an opportunity to leave their own special mark on the mural.

Once the mural is completed, another team of parents and students, led by Walton’s mum Dr Tania Splawa-Neyman in Grade 1 will create the landscaping for the sensory garden which will include a path, seating, native plants and water feature.

We thank Nick for sharing his time, creativity and artistic talents with our school community. We look forward to seeing the completed mural bring colour and life to this developing space.

Father’s and Special Person’s Day

It was wonderful to welcome so many dads, grandparents, uncles, parents, carers and other special people to our recent Fathers and Special Persons Day celebration.

We would especially like to thank Ruth for planning and organising the scones with jam and cream, tea, and coffee. We also thank the many staff members who helped prepare and serve refreshments throughout the morning.

The Annual Dads versus Kids soccer match on the oval was very well attended, with a few dads showing off their impressive skills! It was a close and entertaining game, with the dads winning 3–2.

We would also like to thank our Parents Association for running the Father’s Day Stall in the library. The stall offered a wonderful range of gifts, including baked goods, mugs, and plants. As well as raising funds for the school, the stall gave students an opportunity to choose a small gift for someone special in their lives.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the celebration such an enjoyable and memorable occasion.

Prep Visits Kew Traffic School

Last Wednesday, our Prep students travelled to Kew Traffic School as part of their learning about road safety and their inquiry unit, What Makes a Community?

The students had a wonderful time riding bicycles and scooters around the traffic school and playing on the playground next door. They practised stopping at red lights, crossing roads safely and following traffic signs. They also enjoyed exploring the different shops, stations, and train.

One of the highlights was dressing up as firefighters, police officers, traffic supervisors, and medical staff. It was a fun and valuable excursion that helped the students learn more about road safety and the important roles people play within a community.

Footy Colours and Pie Day

On Friday, our school was filled with colour and excitement as students celebrated Footy Colours and Pie Day. Students arrived dressed in the colours and uniforms of their favourite sporting teams, including AFL, netball, soccer, and many other sports.

A special thank you to our Parents Association for organising and selling the delicious pies. It was a wonderful day that brought our school community together and celebrated our shared love of sport.

CURRICULUM DAY

Last Tuesday, our teachers worked collaboratively in their teams throughout the day, taking the opportunity to carefully scope and plan our Term 4 units of learning across all areas of the curriculum.

The day provided valuable time for teachers to review student learning, consider curriculum priorities and map out engaging learning experiences for the term ahead. Working together allows our teachers to share ideas, build on each other’s expertise and ensure there is consistency and continuity across our classrooms.

It was also lovely to hear so much positive and happy discussion about our recent school concert. Teachers reflected on the wonderful experience our students had and the sense of pride and achievement across the school. There was a real feeling of excitement as everyone reflected on what was a very special event for our students and school community.

We are very grateful for the time our teachers invest in planning and preparing high-quality learning experiences for our students, and we are looking forward to a wonderful Term 4.

Thank You, Thank You and More Thank You!

I would like to take a little bit of space in the newsletter to thank everyone for the amazing night we shared on Monday.

Seeing all the happy faces, everyone participating, and the incredible level of positivity, energy, and support for one another made the night very special.

I must admit that while watching the kids backstage, I shed a few tears at different points throughout the night. And I certainly wasn’t the only teacher I saw having the same reaction! Of course, I had to quickly wipe them away and get back to work.

I would like to start by thanking Nerida and Cam for their incredible support and commitment to this big project. I know they have many things to deal with, but they always made time for me whenever I needed them and were always there with the right advice and support.

I also feel it is important to mention the Kinect and Camberwell Grammar School teams. Their professionalism made the whole process run so smoothly and gave us confidence that everything would come together in the end. Thank you for helping make such a big production feel possible.

I would also like to thank every single teacher for their energy and commitment. There were changes to rehearsal times and days along the way, and you were always so flexible and willing to make things work. The job you did with the costumes was incredible. Every single student looked amazing, and they were so proud to wear their costumes on stage.

A huge thank you to all our support staff as well. Your constant help and participation on Monday made the day even more enjoyable. And the staff dance… I’m sorry for saying it, but we were incredible!

Thank you to all the parents and families for sharing your excitement with me in the weeks leading up to the concert and for cheering so enthusiastically for every single class on the night. Your support made a huge difference.

And finally, I would like to thank and congratulate the Grade 6 Band “The Party Hats” and our School Choir. You were incredibly brave, and I loved seeing how happy and proud you looked on stage. You have all shown such commitment by coming along to rehearsals every week and sharing the passion and love for music that we all have. That passion was certainly visible on stage!

Thank you all for making Monday night such a special memory. It has been a huge project, but seeing everyone come together and watching the students shine made every rehearsal, change and challenge worth it.

I hope the students will remember that feeling of being on stage, hearing the applause and knowing that the whole school was behind them.

I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together, and I’m excited to keep creating, performing, and sharing our love of music and the performing arts with all of you. I can’t wait to see what we do next!
