GHPS IS COMMITTED TO CHILD SAFETY
Learning Today. Leading Tomorrow.
What a jampacked term of learning opportunities we have had. We have explored literature, the performing arts, science and engaged in a range of sports.
From The Showcase at Robert Blackwood Hall to a magician’s performance and book week parade, to great sporting achievements at the Olympics Day and junior and district Athletics. Our prep students shone brightly at their 100 days of school and our dad’s and special people in our student’s life enjoyed a cooked breakfast and a game of soccer. We welcomed our Grandparents and special family members into our school, and we enjoyed our fortnightly assemblies where our students’ received awards for their great learning and accomplishments. Then, we cooked a delicious curry with Fiona and our grade 2/3 students explored Melbourne, while our preps were entertained with a fairytale performance. In science week the whole school learnt more about chemical science in the Liquid Nitrogen Show.
Today we had our Sports Colours Day! The school was a sea of colour celebrating favourite footy, netball, basketball, soccer, rugby, and whatever team that is supported! Thank you to the GPA for organising a delicious ‘pie’ lunch.
And that’s not all, the GPA organised a fun disco and everyone danced the night away. On the same weekend, hundreds of sausages were cooked at Bunnings, which proved a successful fundraiser. Our students were discerning shoppers at the annual Father’s Day stall and today enjoyed a delicious hot lunch of pies and sausage rolls.
A huge thanks to everyone who has been involved in these events in either the organisation, support, attendance, or participation; it is absolutely an attribute that makes our school great. With Term 3 typically being the ‘quiet term’, look out in Term 4!
FUNDRAISING
Due to the dedicated effort of our families and specifically the GPA we have so far this year raised over $9000.
This money has been used to purchase a variety of books for our students. This includes novels for literature circles, decodable texts for our junior classes and a selection of books for reading at home.
On behalf of the teachers and students, thank you to our supportive community for your time and generosity.
HATS ARE BACK!
From day 1 term 4, students are required to wear a wide brimmed or school approved hat.
Teachers will be actively monitoring this in the playground and students without a hat will be required to miss sit in the shade.
We also encourage students to put sunscreen on each morning and bring it in their bag to reapply throughout the day.
STUDENT WELL BEING
This term our 4, 5, and 6 students have been involved in the Upstander Program. The program specifically empowers these young students to become “upstanders” by teaching them how to actively respond to bullying and harmful behaviours, rather than being passive bystanders.
Our students have learnt valuable skills in conflict resolution, inclusion, and respect, helping them to create safer and more supportive school environments.
At the conclusion of this unit, they will be sharing their learning by presenting posters to our school community.
WILL YOU BE AT GHPS IN 2025?
If you know that your child will not be at Glen Huntly Primary School in 2025, please let Nerida Burns or, the office know in writing as soon as possible (email: Nerida. burns@education.vic.gov.au).
For future planning purposes, we will be submitting an enrolment projection for 2025 to the Department of Education by the end of the first week of term 4, so such advice would be really helpful. We realise that some families find this conversation difficult for a range of reasons, however it will be a huge assistance to us to know as soon as possible.
