Last week, our Year 3 and 4 students returned from their Waratah Bay camp brimming with stories, pride in their achievements, and excitement for the adventures that future camps will bring.
It was wonderful to see them embracing new experiences, stepping out of their comfort zones, and growing in confidence.
School camps provide a fantastic opportunity for students to build independence, teamwork, and resilience, all while deepening friendships and discovering their strengths in a new environment. I also thoroughly enjoyed the camp and felt incredibly proud watching our students approach each challenge with enthusiasm and a growth mindset.
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing staff – Miss Piscioneri, Miss Krause, Miss Pearsall, Mr MacDermid, Zoe, Sam, and Bindu – for their dedication and effort in planning, leading, and running this memorable experience.
Camps like this don’t just happen – they require hours of preparation, and we are so grateful for your commitment and care.
The Art Show
What can we say!?!
It was an absolute success and reflected a significant amount of work behind the scenes. Our student’s creativity shone through in the many pieces of artwork they have created.
Thank you to Miss de Bruyn for her organisation and preparation of a professional and dynamic event, and to our staff who helped.
It was lovely to have so many parents, grandparents and special visitors attend.

Glen Eira College offered upcoming Year 7 students the opportunity to apply for a place in their SEAL Program. This program is designed for gifted and high-potential learners who are academically advanced and highly motivated, providing them with an enriched learning environment that nurtures their intellectual growth and development.
We are incredibly proud to share that GHPS students have secured 25% of the 24 available places in this prestigious program. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the academic excellence and dedication of our students. Congratulations to all involved!
2026 PLANNING AND PREPARATION
Next week I will send out some information for the 2026 school year, including class requests and general organisation.
It is important that we are aware of students who will not return to GHPS for the 2026 school year.
You are required to put this formally in writing with an email to the school office.
If you are a family whose child/children is not returning to Glen Huntly PS next year, please do this as soon as possible, thank you.
A Few Reminders
MOBILE DEVICES – please remember that all mobile phones are stored in the office during the school day and this includes all wearable smart devices.
JEWELLERY/HAIR – a reminder that in line with our policy, students should have long hair tied back and minimal jewellery at school. Earrings should be small studs or sleepers to minimize the risk of injury.
SUNSMART – A reminder that all students are required to wear their broad brimmed or bucket hats for outdoor activities, this includes recess, lunch, and physical education lessons.
Students without hats will be required to refrain from play and stay in the shaded areas of the school-No Hat, No Play.
Sunscreen is also available for our students and are reminded by their teachers to apply sunscreen before going out to play; however, they are welcome to BYO and apply sunscreen at school.
Students will be required to wear their hats all term when involved in outdoor activities or outdoor recess, in line with our SunSmart policy.
TRAFFIC AND PARKING
A reminder to families to follow the parking signs around school and please disembark your children on the safe side (the footpath side) of your car.
Also, double parking and parking in front of driveways is not appreciated by our neighbours.

Congratulations to the following students who received a ‘Student of the Week’ award.
Hunter 0A – A great first day with his new teacher – coming in ready to learn.
Abigail 0A – Excellent work writing the steps involved in making paper from wood.
Amin 0A – Excellent and respectful listening skills. Amin always takes the time to listen to his peers and his teacher.
Ezekiel 0A – Excellent presentation when brainstorming the items we make from different materials – wood, metal, fabric, glass and plastic.
Prawanjot 0B – For demonstrating enthusiasm towards learning by asking for assistance when required and maintaining a ‘have a go’ attitude when tasks are challenging.
Isabella 0B – For demonstrating resilience and pride in Maths this week, inquiring into subtraction and friends of ten. Isabella has been confidently demonstrating her understanding and thinking, throughout the lessons and presenting her independent work with care and pride.
Arjun 0B – For demonstrating pride during phonics this week, Arjun confidently shared his understanding of letters and sounds and applied his knowledge independently during Wednesday’s independent task. Keep up the amazing work Arjun!
Elliott 0B – For consistently demonstrating all the school values by showing resilience in overcoming challenges, respect for others in every interaction, creativity in his learning, pride in his success, and teamwork by supporting and collaborating with peers. Keep up the amazing work Elliott! We are all so proud of you!
Klim 1A – For your fantastic drawing of The Secret Garden. You listened to the descriptive words in the story to create a detailed illustration. Way to go superstar!
Aiden 1A – For your awesome story titled ‘Aiden and Mickey’. You planned your ideas, sounded out your words like a champ and gave it your all. Super proud of you – well done!
Samvega 1B – Always striving to be a good leader in our classroom, taking pride in helping others complete their work and caring for her friends with they need some uplifting.
Todi 1B – For transitioning so well into GHPS and building wonderful new friendships. We’re so excited to have you in our class!
Alexey 1C – In Reading this week, we focused on visualisation. This student did a fantastic job imagining the setting in Owl Moon and drawing a detailed picture to show it. He showed Pride in his learning and Respect by listening carefully and trying his best. Well done, Alexey – keep up the great work!
Zaynab 1C – In Reading this week, we learnt how illustrations help us understand a story and Zaynab explained beautifully how the picture showed friendship when the boy warned the snowman to stay away from the heater. It is wonderful to see her growing confidence and clear voice in class discussions. Well done, Zaynab – your learning is coming along in leaps and bounds!
Olivia 2A – You’ve made great progress in your learning about place value this week. You showed confidence when writing numbers in the thousands and drew MAB blocks to show your understanding. Well done on your focused effort and steady improvement!
Trevor 2A – For your positive start to G.H.P.S. You’ve brought confidence, energy and a fun spirit to our classroom, and you’ve already made so many new friends. You’ve settled into our routines so quickly it feels like you’ve been here all year! We’re so lucky to have you! What a superstar!
Indie 2B – For being a place-value champion! You showed a brilliant understanding of four-digit numbers using Base-10 blocks and played the Tens Tower Trading game like a true maths master! Well Done!
Nash 2B – For starting your story with a burst of adventure! You created a powerful fire dragon with amazing superpowers and came up with an epic problem, defeating the evil lava monster! Well done!
Henry 3A – For his excellent teamwork, effort and resilience whilst on camp. We loved seeing you in your element!
3/4A students – for being such amazing campers! You showed wonderful teamwork, respect and kindness to everyone around you, making camp a fun and inclusive experience for everyone. Each day, you stepped out of your comfort zones, embraced new challenges and tried your best. We are so proud of you all!
Ava 3C – For being a super star at camp.
Pranika 4B – For completing all her tasks with energy, precision and detail. Showing pride with our room displays, making sure they are perfect and for guiding other students with instructions! Great leadership! Well Done!
Rishaa 4C – For showing great growth in fractions. She continues to grow her confidence and approaches each fractions lesson with determination.
Saambavi 5B – Her persistence, positive attitude, and kindness towards others make her a wonderful role model in our classroom.
Eklavya 5C – For showing great progress in our Literature Circle sessions, sharing more ideas, asking questions to generate conversation, and getting more confident with each discussion. Keep it up!
Isla 6A – For your outstanding work as our Sustainability Captain. You have demonstrated great responsibility through your work recording Minimal Waste Monday and making the school environmentally friendly. I love your positive attitude and dedication to the role.
Alexander 6B – An excellent first two weeks back from holidays and as a full time GHPS student. Proud of you Alex!
5/6C – For all your amazing work as individuals and as a team during Market Day last week. I’m proud of the teamwork, creativity and pride shown during the event. Spectacular!
Chess News
On Wednesday 22nd October Mickey, Mitch, Aarav, James, Sean, Alec (and Tim from Malvern Primary who attends chess classes at GHPS) attended the ‘Chess Victoria State Semi Finals Junior open 2025’.
They were up against some of the best students in Victoria and so proud of them all!
While we didn’t make it through to the next round, this is an incredible achievement! Well done boys!
Science News
The Woolworths Cricket Blast program is coming to GHPS.
Held on the oval straight after school on a Wednesday, it’s a great opportunity for your children to get active and have some fun. And what’s more,
