DIWALI

I was filled with joy at last Friday’s assembly proudly watching our students showcase their celebration of Diwali.

A huge thank you to Bindu and her team of families who gave their time to decorating the gymnasium including beautiful rangolis.

The students spoke confidently about the meaning of Diwali and danced beautifully dressed in their traditional clothes worn at this special celebration.

Spring Fair

There are only 8 days to go until our Spring Fair. Have you signed up to volunteer at a stall yet?

To make the day a success I am asking that our whole community come along and bring friends and family too.

I know that together we can make wonderful memories, connections and hopefully funds that will go towards a new playground for the senior school.

Staff professional Learning

Last Monday our staff took part in updating their First Aid qualifications including asthma and anaphylaxis training.

The session was lead by Anna from HERO HQ. Later, our teachers spent time analysing student data for report writing.

Class Placement

At this time each year, it is helpful to understand the class placement process for the following year, which is equally important and complex.

Class formation and class placement based on academic considerations:

At Glen Huntly Primary School, teachers and teaching teams collaborate to formulate and place students in class groupings for the next year and consider the following essential factors:

• The academic strength of the group as a whole
• An effective diversity and range of interests, talents and learning styles
• A gender balance in each class.

Teaching teams will always aim to create class groups that offer the best blend and composition based on these types of academic learning factors. It is therefore important that when parents request that their child be placed in a particular class, that this be based primarily on academic grounds.

Students – Who do you work well with?

Students will be asked to nominate five (5) other students who they ‘work well with’ in their year level. This sometimes includes and sometimes does not include friends, as we don’t always necessarily work well with some of our closest friends. That doesn’t mean we won’t be in the same class together; what we’re focusing on here is our educational relationships, more so than friendships.

Parent Requests

• No requests will be taken into account regarding teachers.
• In an extremely limited number of cases, there may be an educational, health or wellbeing reason for your child to be separated or paired with another child. This may include:
  • A child with additional needs who will be supported by positive ongoing relationships with their peers.
  • A child who has been involved in ongoing and targeted incidents where another child has negatively targeted and/or impacted their learning and/or their wellbeing.
• Any requests from parents must be:
  • Sent to the Glen Huntly Primary School email address (Glen Huntly.ps@education.vic.gov.au) , addressed to myself (Nerida Burns and the subject line ‘Class Placement’
  • Received no later than close of business Friday 15th November (no late submissions will be considered).

I will then reply to make an appointment with you to discuss the request in more depth.

NOTE: It may not always be possible to accommodate class placement requests, but we will take all requests into consideration.

Will you be here in 2025?

Is your family leaving GHPS at the end of the year? We are now developing our Work Force Plan for 2025.

If you are leaving GHPS at the end of the year, can you please let the office know soon so that we can assist your child with transition processes and to plan our staff and classes for 2025.

Fee payments and Excursion Permissions and Payments.

All Communication notices regarding excursions will be sent through COMPASS.

Permissions are to be given through COMPASS.

Preferred payment method for Fee payments and Excursions is through COMPASS.

This will allow us to always keep all the correct information available to staff whilst on an excursion.
