Celebration Night

What an incredible evening we all had on Tuesday. It was such a special occasion with our families coming together to celebrate the end of the year.

Our talented students entertained us with Christmas songs with many dressed in colourful festive outfits.

I certainly felt a strong sense of community connection, fun and joy, all that makes our school special.

Thank you to the GPA for organising the Pizza and Ice-cream trucks.

Semester 2 Reports

Our teachers are in the final stages of writing the end of year reports. These are a celebration of both the achievements and areas for future development.

As you might appreciate, a lot of work goes into capturing the academic gains of your children.

The reports will be released on Compass on Friday December 20. I know you will join me in thanking the teachers for their dedication to this process.

Also, if this is your last semester at GHPS, and you would like a hard copy of your child’s reports please download a copy before December 24.

Student Leaders 2025

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to 4/5 team for their hard work in coordinating and implementing a fair and robust selection process for our 2025 student leaders at GHPS.

Their efforts ensure that every candidate has the opportunity to showcase their potential and commitment to leadership.

We wish all applicants the very best of luck as we move through this important process and thank the 2024 captains for inspiring and leading the future captains and leaders.

I look forward to sharing the names of the successful applicants who will assume leadership roles in 2025 with our school community at our last assembly on December 19 at 2.30 and, in the next edition of our newsletter.

SCHOOL PERFORMACE REPORT 2024

Earlier this month, the Department of Education released the School Performance Report for 2024.

We are pleased to share with our school community that Glen Huntly Primary School achieved the performance grouping – ‘High’.

This highlights our school’s achievements in Learning and Wellbeing against not only State measures, but also comparing GHPS against Similar Schools.

This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our staff alongside the persistence, responsibility, and determination of our students.

We are extremely pleased with this result and look forward to continuing to build on this achievement in 2025 and into the future.

Glen Huntly performed very well in the overall results for Victoria.

We are ranked 41 in the state. This is against all Government, Independent and Catholic schools.

Today our students had their first Step Up day. It was their first opportunity to be with a new group of children.

Next Tuesday December 10 will be the day students will be in their 2025 classes and will meet their teacher (where possible) and participate in activities supporting positive class and teacher connections for a successful start to the 2025 year.

School Council held their final meeting for the year – a huge thank you to our 2024 members for their commitment and advocacy of GHPS within our community.

Next Wednesday at 10.45am we are looking forward to welcoming all our amazing parents to a special thank-you morning tea dedicated to our volunteers who have supported us throughout the year.

Our staff deeply values the incredible contributions you make to our school community. From assisting on excursions and helping in classrooms to caring for our chickens, running sausage sizzles, baking delicious treats, managing uniform sales, organizing amazing fundraising events, or serving on the School Council—every effort you have made is truly appreciated.

As we approach the busy end of the year, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to all members of our parent/carer and wider community who contribute in countless ways to make our school a wonderful place for learning and growth.

Your support, whether big or small, helps create a nurturing and connected environment for all our students and families. From serving as Parent helpers, leading fundraising efforts, and volunteering in classrooms, to joining working bees or offering your help in cooking classes and excursions or supporting student-fundraising projects —your contributions are deeply appreciated.

We also acknowledge the quiet yet significant acts of kindness that keep our community strong: the parents and carers who work hard to ensure their children are at school each morning, those who lend a hand with pickups or drop-offs for other families, and those who extend a listening ear or offer support in times of need.

These moments of connection, collaboration, and generosity are what truly make our school special.

Vivaan 2A – For creating a great slideshow about your chosen communication tool. You worked so well with your partner and researched in detail about Braille. Well done!

Summer 2A – For your fantastic Christmas story you wrote in Literacy Groups this week. You stayed on task and completed the story in the required time. Keep up the great work!

Nikita 2B – For his use of visualisation when he wrote an interesting description and drew a picture related to the Jackie French text, Fire. Well done!

Krishiv 2C – For your outstanding focus and participation when learning about function machines. You attentively listened to the instructions and independently created your own mathematical rule. 10 out of 10, superstar!

Sophie 3B – For her amazing skills during our maths lesson on Function Machines, in which she was able to show her working out using two different operations. Spectacular work!

Vibha 4A – For helping to fill our classroom with holiday joy and participating in our Celebration night with enthusiasm. We’re loving your Christmas spirit, Vibha!

Alec 4C – Being a wonderful, caring member of 4/5C, showing confidence when discussing issues and displaying passion during his charity research and project about Care Australia.

Jon 5C – For being a wonderful, kind and respectful student who has been displaying all the school values to all his classmates in the classroom. Well done on winning the class vote and your voucher!

Ashleigh 4C – Trying her hardest in all activities, caring for other students, taking time with the layout of her work and for showing her reliability and love of animals through her outstanding care of the school chickens!

Haru 4C – Being such a hardworking, dedicated and determined student. For going out of his way to help others and showing leadership and teamwork working on the 4/5C Christmas tree project. Well Done!

Jiana 4C – Settling in beautifully into 4/5C this term, always showing outstanding manners and consistently giving her best to all classroom tasks!

Eklavya 4C – Eagerly participating in all classroom discussions including the Upstander Workshop. Helping with tasks in the classroom and working in teams on group projects researching the Salvation Army charity. Well Done!
