Welcome back to Term 2 at Glen Huntly Primary. We hope you had an enjoyable break and time together as a family over Easter. We were thrilled to welcome our students back and they walked through the gates eager and ready to dive into another term of learning, growth, and fun. We have a continued strong focus on student learning, as well as lots of exciting activities and opportunities planned for the upcoming term. We look forward to working together as a community to make this term a great success.

My daughter’s wedding was a beautiful day, filled with joy and love. It was at Butlers Lane in Richmond. The sun shone brightly as our two families came together to celebrate the occasion.

Thank you for the many warm wishes I have received.

We concluded Term 1 on a high, as we proudly watched our students parade their Easter Bonnets and staff compete in the Easter hopping race. We cheered for the many successful recipients of the Easter Raffle prizes. There were so many thanks to your generous donations – we appreciate your support of this event.

Thank you to Miss Broxham and the GPA for coordinating the event and organising the raffle prizes.

ANZAC Day assembly

This afternoon we held our school’s ANZAC Day assembly for staff and students, including the English Language school, to commemorate and honour this significant occasion.

Thank you to Ms Krause and Mr White for organising this special assembly.

Yesterday Mr White presented the history and significance of ANZAC Day.

I would like to welcome Georgia Mason to our education support team and Billie Connor who will be the new library technician. Ms Connor will be working on Thursdays overseeing the library.

And I have some exciting news from Ms Jones (our prep B teacher) — she is expecting a baby!

We’re thrilled for her and know this will be a very special time. Ms Jones will continue teaching the class until the end of term 2, and she is committed to making sure your children continue to learn, grow, and have fun every day.

Japanese Cultural day

On Thursday 8th May, our school will celebrate Japanese Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi).

This is a special highlight of the school calendar each year and the students will spend the day immersing themselves in Japanese culture and activities, whilst further expanding their Japanese language skills. This is a whole school event, involving students from Prep through to Year 6.

A range of activities will be taking place across the school, from Taiko Workshops (grades ¾), creating a Kumihimo, learning all about Furoshiki wrapping, to making Koinobori Kites, a Kendama challenge, and other outdoor games such as a scavenger hunt.

Students are invited to come to school dressed up, taking inspiration from something related to Japan. They may like to take inspiration from traditional Japanese costume, the colours of the Japanese flag, Pokémon or other Japanese characters, etc.

Please note: please ensure no chopstick accessories, ninja swords, masks or head coverings are included in costumes.

Education Week

Celebrate Education Week with GHPS in 2025.

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. This year we celebrate Education Week from Monday 12 May to Friday 16 May.

This year’s theme, ‘Celebration of Cultures,’ highlights the diversity of our communities and the importance of every child feeling safe and welcome at school.

Our school will be open to visitors to share our celebration on Wednesday the 14th of May from 5-6.30pm and Thursday 15^th May 9.15-11.30.

We invite our grandparents to our morning session where they can visit their grandchild’s classroom, watch a special performance and enjoy morning tea.

Prep Enrolments 2026 Open

Enrolments are open for 2026 Prep students and will remain so until the end of July. Our 2026 Prep Information Night will be held on Wednesday May 21^st.

School Tours are also currently taking place over the term.

If you are aware of any families that are seeking a school for next year, please direct them to our website for information about these events and the enrolment process.

Sibling enrolments are now open, please contact the office for enrolment forms.

Fundraising

Last term we ran a stall called Minimart. We got donations from Glen Huntly students and families. We aimed to raise $50 for the new school playground but we raised a total of $120 dollars. During Wednesday recess students came and bought second hand toys, books, and donations, near the gym. The people involved in helping were Tasha, Ruby, Uma, Lia, Sophie, and Kira. Thank you to everyone that donated second hand toys and bought toys or books to raise the $120 dollars that we got.

Thank you to the students in 3/4C- Tasha, Ruby, Uma, Lia, Sophie, and Kira, who promoted and run fundraising event.

They demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and commitment to organising and running the stall. Congratulations and well done! The money raised will be going towards our new playground.

Annual Reporting Meeting

The next school council meeting will be held on Monday May 26 in the east side staffroom. Included will be the presentation of the 2024 Annual Report to the school community. All interested parents are welcome to attend and the 2024 Annual Report will be uploaded to the school website shortly thereafter.

Congratulations Zac

On Saturday 29^th March, Zac, 6C, won the U12 800m & 1500m at the Caulfield Little Athletics Club Championships.

Zac also ran a state qualifying time in the 800m this season.

An outstanding achievement.

Congratulations Java

We are pleased to let you know that Java, 4C, has passed a Judo practical and knowledge test called a grading at the Caulfield Judo Club.

This is no easy task and requires a great deal of practice. The grade is awarded by the presentation of a coloured Judo belt.

Junior Judo belts are in varying colours signifying age and expertise. Java has been awarded a Junior Yellow belt.

Isla 5/6A – Rogaining Expert

At the Spargo Scramble 6hr Rogaine on Sunday April 6th, Isla independently and ambitiously mapped out the route, leading her group through a challenging 22.05km hike across bush and forest terrain in a time of 5 hours and 49 minutes. With her compass and map in hand, she navigated to as many checkpoints as possible.
Isla’s energy, skills and determination earned her an impressive 900 points, securing a decisive victory in the Family category. Her outstanding performance was even recognized with a special mention on the Victorian Rogaining Association website:
“Also, a shoutout to Isla who as a junior old set her own route, helped out at the start of the event. cracked some jokes on the microphone and managed to score a cracking 900 points to help her dad take out the Family category on Sunday!”
