Welcome to week 3 and what an action-packed fortnight it has been.
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the beautiful autumn weather in Melbourne. Today, we celebrated Mother’s Day with a delightful breakfast, featuring scones, hot chocolate, tea, and coffee. It was heartwarming to see so many mums and children enjoying the morning together, especially with the added fun of playing in the gym. A huge thank you to Ruth for coordinating the event, her kitchen club and the parents and staff for coming together. Events like these truly exemplify the caring community we have at our school.
In the spirit of Mother’s Day, I have some exciting personal news to share. My eldest daughter, Liana, who recently got engaged, is expecting her first child in September. My husband and I are thrilled to becoming grandparents for the first time! The whole family is eagerly anticipating the arrival of our first grandchild and nephew. This year is indeed a very special one for the Burns family.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful Mother’s Day weekend. To all our Mums in the school community, I wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday and hope you are truly and deservedly spoiled!
Robina High School Band
We were incredibly lucky to kick off our term with a vibrant musical performance from the Robina High School Band, visiting us all the way from Queensland!
What an upbeat start to the term! It was such an enjoyable performance, and the students certainly showed their musical talents.
We look forward to welcoming them back to Glen Huntly in the future!
Election Day BBQ
Many thanks to all the families who donated items for our Election Cake Stall. And a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to sell cakes, cook sausages, onions and egg and bacon rolls. Your efforts were very appreciated because the queue waiting to buy their democracy sausage rarely waned. We would like to thank you for your support and generous contributions on the day.
The Cake Stal and BBQ raised approximately $5000 (an accurate figure will be available nest fortnight). This is a fantastic effort! The money raised will be going towards our new playground.
Mother’s Day Breakfast and Stall
This morning’s Mother’s Day breakfast was I want to express my deepest gratitude to Sarah and her team for running the annual Mother’s Day Stall today.
The dedication and enthusiasm you and the other parents—along with the dads who joined in—put into preparing and hosting the event made it a memorable experience for our students.
Thanks to your efforts, they had the opportunity to select the perfect gift for their mums and grandmothers, creating lasting memories and smiles.
Thank you for making this Mother’s Day special for all of us.
House Cross Country
On Wednesday morning, the weather was ideal for running and made for perfect conditions as the House Cross Country event took place at Lord’s Reserve. A heartfelt thank you goes to Miss Sarah Price for her meticulous planning and execution of this year’s event. Additionally, we are grateful to all staff and volunteers who contributed their time and energy to ensure the morning’s success.
While every participant was a winner, special congratulations are due to the top placegetters. Equally commendable was the spirit of camaraderie displayed by our senior students, who ran alongside their peers, offering encouragement and support to help them complete their races. Also, the encouragement shown by our students cheering their friends on was great to see. These acts of kindness exemplify the values we hold dear.
The event was a testament to our school’s unity and commitment to fostering an environment where every individual strives to be their best.
Pedestrian Bridge Upgrade Improves Safety
We’re pleased to share that the pedestrian bridge has recently been upgraded with new yellow non-slip strips installed across each step.
These bright, high-visibility strips not only improve traction in wet or slippery conditions but also make the steps easier to see, enhancing safety for everyone using the bridge.
Before and After School
A reminder that the school’s duty of care for students begins at 8:45 am and concludes at 3:45 pm. Therefore, students should not arrive on school grounds before 8:45 am unless they are enrolled in a supervised program or are under parent supervision.
After 3:45 pm, staff are off duty, and school facilities such as toilets and the gymnasium are locked. We kindly ask that families depart promptly to enjoy the remainder of the afternoon. Students remaining on school grounds after this time will be directed to the main office.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
The Scholastic Book Fair is Coming to our Library
Our Scholastic Book Fair is back! From May 12th to May 15th, the library will be transformed into a wonderland of books and reading fun.
Whether you are hunting for the next gripping chapter book or a beautiful picture book to share, there’s something for every young reader to discover.
Opening Times:
- Mornings: 8:30 AM – 9.00 AM
- Afternoons: 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Bring your wish list, and your love of reading—we can’t wait to see you there! Every purchase supports our school and helps get more books into the hands of our students.
2026 PREP ENROLMENTS NOW OPEN
Our Prep enrolments for 2026 are now open.
Please contact the office if you have a child who will be eligible to start school next year so we can include you on our email list of information.
The enrolment process is completed online for families and the office will be able to provide further information.

Emily 0A – For her determination and sounding out when writing about her favourite colour. Emily wrote ‘My favourite colour is red because I like strawberries’. Great Work Emily!
Isabelle 0A – For her sounding out and using initial sounds when writing about her favourite colour. Great Work Izzy!
Walden 0A – For his amazing sentence writing when writing about robots. You even remembered to use finger spaces and full stops! WOW! Great Work, Walden.
Monish 0A – For his concentration during writing piece about robots. You sounded out the words and re-read your writing. Great Work, Monish!
Nihasvi 0B – for showing excellent reading during literacy this week. She has worked hard to learn the alphabetical sounds and blend them together to decode CVC words. Well done, Nihasvi!
Shiriyal 0B – for demonstrating excellent writing skills this week. He used his sound knowledge to write a sentence about his favourite colour, black. Well done, Shiriyal!
Sonny 1A – For your numeracy skills this week! You rocked it by sharing sets of objects into equal groups—and you didn’t stop there! You even tackled the challenge of writing matching division sentences. Way to go!
Harrison 1A – For working so hard the year to improve your handwriting. You are a handwriting hero, making sure your letters are sitting on the solid line and floating in space. Well done, superstar!
Shivaay 1B – you’re a letter-sound superstar! You’ve been smashing it with your reading and writing! Go, Shivaay, go!
Henry 1B – For showing all of our school values like a champ and taking real pride in following our classroom agreements and expectations. What a superstar – we’re so proud of you!
Peter 1C – for showing wonderful Respect and Pride in his learning. He stayed focused and listened carefully during our lessons, which helped him write an excellent introduction about lightning—explaining clearly that lightning is made when ice crystals rub together. Well done on your fantastic effort and neat handwriting this week!
Kai 2A – For being helpful in the classroom.
Matilda 2A – Wonderful work in informative writing including an excellent illustration of a Tasmanian Devil and interesting information about this animal.
Arjun 2B – For your awesome efforts in editing your recount about your school holidays! You took great care fixing up your capital letters, showing pride in your writing. Way to go, Arjun!
Yann 3A – For his participation and contributions to our Literature Circle. It was such a joy to hear you read and make connections to our text. Keep up the great work!
Sharier 3A – For his focus and attention during both Literacy and Writing tasks this week. Keep up the great work!
Krishiv 3B – Settling back into the class routine, trying really hard with his couplet rhyming poetry and understanding the fractions of a whole that were discussed in class – 1/2, 1/4, 1/3 and 1/16. Well Done!
Anna 3C – Being spectacular during our Taiko Drumming workshop. You were confident and you shone.
Tasha 4C – Taking risks during our kickball game when you decided to run a home run instead of staying on the base.
Vidhaan 5A – For wanting to challenge yourself in Maths. I have been delighted to see you take on challenging questions in Maths and the way you are setting out your work gives you the best chance to solve problems correctly.
Shivika 5C – For the confidence she has shown during our maths lessons on adding and subtracting fractions, especially being able to make note of where she has made mistakes and displaying resilience to try again. All with a smile and excitement to find the sum! Amazing!
Dhruva 5C – For the attentiveness that he shows when helping not only his friends in the class, but teachers as well. Also, the level of enthusiasm he demonstrates during activities such as the furoshiki workshop yesterday was amazing! Well done!
Congratulations to our 2025 Sports Captain, Anton, who has been officially selected as a goalkeeper for the Australian National Team competing in the 2025 AMF C-13 Futsal World Cup
He is one of only 12 players nationwide to make the Under 13 FAF Australian National Futsal Team, and the only player selected from Victoria.
The World Cup will be held in Fortaleza, Brazil, from 1st to 7th September 2025.
This achievement is the result of Anton’s dedication, consistent hard work, and countless hours of training.

In our meeting with Mrs Burns at lunchtime on the 2nd May we discussed information about the new playground.
We saw pictures, still in draft form of the design, and found out that it will be located between the gym and the Japanese classroom. In the playground there will be a slide, monkey bars, trapeze rings, climbing frames, such as a spider web, and some swinging ropes.
We also discussed the importance of keeping the yard tidy and getting more buckets and tongs for cleaning. We suggested more bins for the oval, and getting a stronger fence for the chickens, because the soccer balls keep hitting it.
