Keeping Our School Community Safe

The streets around the school can become very busy during drop-off and pick-up times. With pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles all sharing limited space, safety is our top priority.

You can help keep our students and community safe by:

Following signage and showing consideration
Please observe all street signage and parking restrictions, including no parking and no stopping zones, and be mindful of our neighbours.
Using safe crossing points
Always use the pedestrian bridge and designated crossings—they are in place to keep everyone safe.
Staying aware
Be alert to your surroundings. Roads and footpaths are shared spaces with many users during peak times.
Talking to your children about safe travel
Take a moment to check in on how your child gets to and from school. Reinforce key habits such as:

- Using designated crossings and waiting for signals
- Looking both ways before crossing
- Staying alert (no headphones or distractions near roads)
- Riding bikes/scooters safely and courteously around others

Building these habits early helps our students become confident, responsible road users.

ES Appreciation Week

On Wednesday we celebrated our amazing education support staff.

Their roles are pivotal in ensuring our school runs smoothly from the office to the classroom.

Each one of them works tirelessly supporting our students and families, thank you.

Education Week- Showcase your School

This week was Education Week, and we kicked things off with a fantastic community breakfast hosted by TheirCare. Liana, Georgia, and the team prepared a delicious feast of breakfast favourites for everyone to enjoy.

On Tuesday evening, our band and choir performed at the opening of our Open Night, creating a wonderful atmosphere as students proudly showcased their classrooms and learning. Then, on Wednesday morning, our classrooms were filled with families enjoying the opportunity to see learning in action.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our school throughout the week.

Congratulations

Eight grade 3 and 4 students represented GHPS at the district cross country last Friday at Caulfield Park.

A huge congratulations to- Jet, Ryker, Nora, Zoe, Gus, Mubiyna, Taigen and Sakuhito for giving the race their absolute all.

Each student should feel very proud of their result and a special mention to Zoe for finishing 7th and will now go through to compete at the district competition.

Prep Enrolments

Enrolments for the 2027 intake of Prep students is now open.

In line with the Department of Education’s Placement Policy and timeline, we will contact you in early August to advise the outcome of your child’s Prep enrolment application.

If you live within our school zone or you already have a sibling enrolled at our school your enrolment will automatically be accepted but for planning purposes please get these enrolments in earlier rather than later!

Working Bee

Our next Working Bee is scheduled for Sunday June 14, 9.30am – 12pm.

Junior School Council

This week the Junior School council met. Firstly, we reflected on what each of the members wanted to achieve in their role.

Next, we identified what is going well at our school followed by any concerns. Here are 5 safety concerns that were identified.

No swearing at our school.
Remember not to share your food.
Please do not jump from the top of the senior playground.
We do not tackle playing soccer or, AFL.
Toilets are not for playing.

Curriculum Day

Our next curriculum day is on June 9 (the day after the Kings birthday public holiday).

The day will have a wellbeing focus with staff learning more about the Safe schools and the revised respectful relationships curriculum.

Policy Review

Our school policies are regularly reviewed by the policy and curriculum subcommittee of school council. Sometimes we ask for parent feedback on certain policies.

Congratulations to the following students who received a “Student of the Week” award.

Harlow 0B – For demonstrating wonderful resilience in Maths! She has shown growing confidence and determination when tackling new learning, proudly sharing her thinking and showing her working out with pride. Her positive attitude, perseverance, and pride in her learning have been fantastic to see. Keep up the amazing work Harlow!

Mickey 0C – for pushing yourself to write longer narratives and demonstrate counting by twos, fives and tens, through our ant legs and family hand counting. You work very hard, looking forward to your growth during this year.

Arish 1B – For always being a happy and cooperative member of our class. You light up out classroom with your excitement and enthusiasm. Well done!

Charlie 1C – for showing great confidence and success in sharing and grouping during Maths lessons. Fantastic work!

Eren 2A – For consistently showing kindness and care towards all students and teachers. You are patient, always use your manners and your confidence continues to grow. You are a truly valued member of our class. Amazing work!

Aayansh 2B – For being such a superstar teacher helper! You are always ready to lend a hand, support others and take on classroom jobs with a big smile. Your positive attitude makes our classroom a brighter and happier place. Well done, Aayansh!

Matilda 2B – For creating a terrific information report about the Tasmanian Devil. You included interesting facts and drew a creative and detail diagram to match. Great work!

Elly 2C – For filling our classroom with positivity and always starting the day with a big smile. During Open Night, your excitement and pride shone through as you shared your work and celebrated our class with your family. Well done, Elly!

Knox 3A – For his outstanding responses in Reading over the past two weeks. We are so proud of your focus, reflective thinking and written responses. Keep up the great work!

Allis 4A – For always being ready to share her thoughts and opinions during our class discussions. Her willingness to participate shows that she is an attentive listener who thoughtfully engages with the learning. Well done!

Ava 4B – for your incredible attitude towards learning, school and friendships! Your enthusiasm this term has been absolutely shining, and your smile, positivity and energy light up our classroom every single day. You always jump into school with excitement and bring such a fun and happy vibes to 4B. Well done on being such a superstar classmate. We are so lucky to have you in our class!

Year 5/6 News

What an amazing 3 days had by the Year 5/6s. From the 13th – 15th of May they headed off to the Mr Evelyn Discovery Camp for 3 days of challenging themselves and practising their teamwork and collaboration skills.

With activities such as giant swing, high ropes, bike riding, bush cooking (damper), archery, and crate stacking the children were certainly challenged. Add in a night walk, campfire singing (an amazing rendition of “A Million Dreams”), talent show, movie night, and a walk to the Silvan Dam, they were pushed out of their comfort zone.

We are very proud to say that they passed with flying colours. We were impressed by the way the children supported each other and ensured that they gave themselves the best opportunity to have an amazing experience.

Sport News

A huge congratulations to the students who attended the District Cross Country event at Caulfield Park.

The Sun was shining and there was so much energy and excitement in the air.

For many students it was their first district event, a special day!

All students should be so proud of their efforts today and a very big well done to Zoe for placing 8th in her age group, she will be representing GHPS at the Kingston Division Cross Country event on May 27th.

Thank you for all the families making the event such a positive experience and Mrs Burns for supporting in the day.
