Chocolate Drive

Thank you to those families who have supported our Cadbury Chocolate Drive by taking a Cadbury fundraising box or by making a donation instead. All profits will be earmarked towards the construction of a new bike shelter on the West site and refurbishment of the bike shelter on the East site.

Please refer to the yellow notice that was attached to the fundraiser box for further information about the fundraiser and some tips for selling your Cadbury treats. Or do what we do, and buy them yourself before you have had the chance to take them into work. Just remember to return all money or unsold products to the school before Monday 3 September.

Students – please note:

  • All students who return their money or unsold goods by Monday 3 September will be rewarded with house points
  • Students who sell multiple boxes will be rewarded double house points
  • The first class to collect $900 in chocolate box sales will receive a bonus box of chocolates for their class to share.

Thank you to Fiona Davey for organising this fundraising, and to Lara O’Grady, Caitilin Hawkins and Fiona and Daniel Davey for sorting all of the boxes last Monday.

Financial Update

We hope to raise another $8,000 by the end of the year for 2 additional air-conditioners on the West Site. In addition, we are exploring ways to support the Buildings and Grounds Committee in building a bike shed for the West Site. GPA funds are also used for running various specialist programs.

The GPA have raised $4,923 so far this year – a fantastic effort!

Fish ‘n Chip Lunch – Tuesday 21st August

GHPS Prep to Grade 4 students “found their treasure” at the Annual Book Week Parade on Tuesday 21st August. It was lovely to see so many well-mannered and book-loving pirates. We hope all takers enjoyed the Fish ‘n Chip lunch. Thank you to Fiona Davey, Nicole Verginis, Shan Jayaweera, Lara O’Grady, Ally Stuart and Tara Surireddi for making this lunch possible.

Father’s Day Stall – Friday 31st August

The GHPS Father’s Day stall is fast approaching and our sign-up roster is only 12% filled. We desperately need heaps of volunteers to bake and to help set up, serve and pack up at the Father’s Days Stall for an hour or more between 9.30am-3.30pm on Friday 31 August in the Wendy Wilson Hall.

Please sign up for one or more spots here: http://signup.com/go/WJyZUCx

If you can bake for our Father’s Day Stall, please:

  • collect cellophane bags from the office and fill these with home-made items (such as chocolate balls, biscuits, fudge or gingerbread) or you can make a batch in a named container (so we can return it to you later) and we will bag them up for you. The options are endless – but please, no fresh cream or custard
  • include information in each bag (or inside your named container) about what you have made, the ingredients you used, when it was made and who made it. Ingredients labels will also be available from the office

We are also seeking donation of other gift items to supplement the fantastic selection of Father’s Day gifts Andrea Carveth has organised this year. Popular items include pot plants (succulents, herbs etc), chocolates, mugs etc.

Please bring your donations of baked items and gifts to the office before 8.45am on Friday 31 August or directly to the stall.

Sunscreen Drive – coming soon

The GPA are excited to be planning a Sunscreen Drive in preparation for being Sun Smart in Term 4. As you are all aware using sunscreen is an important part of being Sun Smart and what a great way to support our school by purchasing products that are beneficial for your children and the whole family!

Information with order forms will be coming home within the next week – so keep an eye out!

Cake Raffle – Fridays – Tickets $1

Thank you to Helen Matthews for preparing delicious chocolate chip biscuits in week 4 and Nicole Verginis for creating the best hedgehog slice this side of Grange Road in week 5. Congratulations to the Bloch and the Davey families for winning these baked offerings.

Coming up this fortnight we have Roxanne Conquest (this week) and Christine Donnan (next week). You’re in for a treat – so don’t forget to support this fundraising for our school by buying tickets for $1 each.

Friday Lunchtime Snacks

Our children have been enjoying the hot chocolates and frozen Berri Quelch Fruit Juice Sticks from our Friday Lunchtime Snacks Stall – and this week on Monday too (to make up for Athletics Day last Friday). The Friday snacks are a great fundraiser for our school – we raised over $5,600 during 2017. We hope that you will continue to support us by volunteering to help fill the 4 weekly spots and by purchasing snacks.

Students who have not pre ordered can still purchase their snack on the day for $1. Students who bring along their own cup/mug from home receive a free marshmallow in their hot chocolate!

Thank you to Heidi Powell, Juliet Cairns, Amanda Philpot, Harisri, Venmani Sasikumar, Rohini Kulkarni, Priyanka and Aarti Dave for signing up to help at our Friday and Monday Lunchtime Snacks Stall in the past fortnight, to Cassandra David for doing the milk run– and to anyone else who helped out.

At time of writing this, we still need volunteers this week and in coming weeks. If you can spare an hour on a Friday lunchtime, please sign up for one or more spots here: http://signup.com/go/ZeWBDjP

“ROCKTOBER” – Saturday 27th October

Planning is well underway for an action-packed, musical trivia night with a spin – “Rocktober”, an event not to be missed! Shan Jayaweera (our very own “Rocktober” Co-Ordinator) and a group of musically talented GHPS parents and teachers are busily working up trivia questions and live performances for the night. Do yourself a favour and book your baby-sitters for Saturday 27th October!

“Rocktober” will be held at the Wendy Wilson Hall at GHPS. More details will be available during Term 3 … watch this space.

Kids Disco – (new date to be advised)

Planning is also underway for our Kids Disco – held every year and a highlight of our calendar. We had planned to hold this on 24 November – but as our school hall will be used as an election booth at the State Election on this date, we are exploring alternative dates.

Thanks to Cassandra David who is co-ordinating this event and to Shan Jayaweera for signing up as our DJ!

Our Kids Disco will also be held at the Wendy Wilson Hall at GHPS. More details will be available during Term 3 … watch this space.

Election Day – Saturday 24 November – Sausage Sizzle and more

On Saturday 24 November, Glen Huntly Primary School’s Wendy Wilson Hall will once again become a polling place for the Victorian State Election. In past years we have run a BBQ, Cake Stall, Book Stall and Crafty Mums Stall – raising much needed funds for our school. What will 2018 Election Day hold? If you would like to be involved in the coordination of our Election Day 2018 stalls, please let us know by sending an email to gpacommunicationsofficer@gmail.com or by coming along to our next GPA meeting.

Next GPA Meeting: Fri 14th September

9.45am – 11.00 am (after assembly), WW Hall, West Site
