Principal’s Welcome

Welcome to Glen Huntly Primary School. There is a very strong partnership between parents and all staff that permeates our wonderful learning environments and when visitors come to Glen Huntly Primary School they often comment on the friendly, welcoming tone, and feel of the school of which I am extremely proud. I highly value the opportunity to “learn together” with the students, staff and parent community members of GHPS and very much welcome the opportunity to meet new families joining our community.

Leading this school, I truly believe in the values, which form the basis of the actions of the whole school community which are:

  • Teamwork and learning together to achieve the best possible outcomes for all
  • Strive for excellence through creativity, initiative and persistence
  • Respect for each other and the environment
  • Community support that enhances quality relationships

Celebrating the achievements of the students, staff and parents at Glen Huntly is exciting and highly rewarding and I am extremely dedicated to achieving the greatest possible success for all members of our community. I see it as privilege to work with everyone to build on the current successes of the school.

I am equally as proud of the efforts that our students demonstrate with their learning and their high academic achievements in Literacy and Numeracy. The Year 3 & 5 Naplan results for Reading, Persuasive Writing, Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation and Numeracy as found on the ACARA My School website are above and substantially above all schools.

Our commitment is also to provide quality and challenging inquiry based learning programs across the curriculum areas, to develop student wellbeing and become an environmentally sustainable school. We want to assist children of all abilities to reach their full potential and become effective and productive members of a global society.

Our dedicated teaching staff plan in teams to provide an exciting and flexible learning program with information and communication technology used as a platform and tool for learning. An exemplary Art and Music program is well established with the annual Art Show and Cabaret proudly showcasing all student work.

The school’s environmental sustainability program incorporates outdoor learning in a number of veggie gardens, the Bush Tucker Garden, looking after the chooks which also incorporates the Waste Wise Wizards program. The new Sensory Gardens are being developed and designed in collaboration with the students and staff.

Spacious well maintained grounds include a separate Junior Site for Foundation – Year 2 and a Senior Site for Years 3 – 6. The 1.3 million dollar refurbishment has been completed and encompasses a new Learning Street, all classrooms from Grades 3 – 6, Library and Administration areas. These works have greatly enhanced the teaching and learning opportunities for all students. The Before and After school Care Activities Centre and new Art Room provide unique and stimulating learning spaces for both students and parent groups alike: The wonderful Glen Huntly Parents Association, the “Crafty Mums”, Carnivale Committee and Cooking classes.

The community is actively involved in all aspects of the school program, with parents being positive, valued and vital partners in their child’s education. I invite you to contact the school to organise a personal tour of our excellent facilities and to discuss how Glen Huntly Primary School can provide a quality educational journey for your child.
