Whole-School Focus at Glen Huntly Primary School
At Glen Huntly Primary School, each week, we adopt a new whole-school focus. These themes are introduced during assemblies and are further explored by classroom teachers during circle time. They are displayed in the classroom and refereed to throughout the week.
Our whole-school weekly focus is designed to guide students in developing positive behaviours, fostering a respectful and inclusive environment, and promoting personal growth. The aim is to instil values that will benefit students both in school and beyond, helping them become responsible and caring members of their community.
Some examples of the whole school focuses include:
- Showing Empathy and Kindness
Encouraging students to understand and share the feelings of others, promoting compassion, and creating a supportive community where kindness is valued in everyday interactions. - Being a Good Bystander
Empowering students to stand up for others, take action in situations of bullying or exclusion, and help create a safe and supportive environment for all. - Being Sun Smart
Raising awareness about the dangers of overexposure to the sun and promoting sun-safe behaviours such as wearing sunscreen, hats, and protective clothing. - Punctuality
Teaching the importance of being on time and prepared, both in school and in daily life, as a way to show respect for others and contribute to a productive and organized environment. - Respectfulness
Encouraging respectful behaviour towards teachers, peers, and school property, and emphasizing the importance of courtesy, consideration, and mutual respect in all settings. - ANZAC Day & Remembrance
Honouring the sacrifices made by servicemen and women, fostering a deep sense of gratitude, and teaching the significance of ANZAC Day and Remembrance events. - Road Safety
Promoting safe practices for walking, cycling, and crossing roads, and teaching students the importance of being aware of their surroundings and following traffic rules to stay safe. - Wearing the Correct Uniform
Highlighting the importance of wearing the correct school uniform to promote a sense of unity, pride, and belonging within the school community. - Active Listening
Encouraging students to develop active listening skills, ensuring they pay attention, understand, and respond thoughtfully to others, fostering respectful communication. - Questioning and Inquiring
Promoting curiosity and critical thinking by encouraging students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and seek to understand the world around them. - Using Manners
Fostering respectful communication through the use of polite words such as “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me,” while emphasizing the importance of good etiquette in daily interactions. - Inclusivity
Creating an inclusive school environment where every student feels valued and accepted, regardless of background, ability, or difference, ensuring no one feels left out. - Water Safety
Teaching students the importance of water safety, including correct behaviours around swimming pools, beaches, and other bodies of water, and emphasizing the need for supervision to prevent accidents. - Environmental Responsibility
Instilling an awareness of environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices, such as recycling, conserving water, reducing waste, and protecting natural resources. - Gratitude
Encouraging students to recognize and appreciate the positive aspects of their lives, fostering an attitude of thankfulness and mindfulness in everyday situations. - Creativity
